http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5851082/ I couldn't agree more. Nearly everyone invited should have accepted and been honored to even be asked. In a sport that plays for a "World" Championship, this should be your chance to prove that the trophy deserves that title. I am not overly patriotic by any means (and sometimes I doubt that I'm patriotic at all), but if I were ever chosen to represent an entire nation in anything, I would accept and be honored that my country thinks enough of me to have me be their representative.
Kudos to AI for his statement. He played his butt off too. Although it sucks we didn't win the gold, I give a lot of credit for AI giving it 100% and playing through a broken finger. And of course he wouldn't saying anything if we won the gold. No one ever does when they win.
I definitely agree. These players care more about money than they do their country. I mean, seriously... The Olympics are every 4 years. Vince Carter can't delay his wedding one month? Have it a month earlier? What about T-Mac and his security concerns? This is your country. Regardless of anything else, you have to do it for your country.
Throughout these Olympics, I have gained a lot of respect for Iverson. He's been in trouble with the law a lot, but as a player he certainly has a lot of guts and desire to do his best. You have to really admire that. Playing through injuries, being one of the few players that still gives back to the game and just giving it his all on the court. I kind of hope that he matures a little bit more though because sometimes off the court he is a complete moron, but, at the same time, on the court he is a warrior.
holy schit, man. i was bored and decided to click on your "pinky... pet of the year" signature. wtf? that's another reason why i'm not a big fan of cats... all the little f'ers have attitude problems. the guy's yelp at the end was hilarious. anyway, screw iverson. misses olympic team meeting. gets suspended for exhibition game. "so what... it was an exhibition game" you say? well, one of the 1,723 excuses that these guys are coming up with is that they don't have enough time to prepare as a team. sure it's only one game, but it's better than none. what would his excuse be about that??? ... ... "we're talking about an exhibition game. not a semi-final game... but an exihibition game."
He was 5 minutes late to the meeting and apologized, saying it didn't look good on him as a team captain. And I don't remember him ever saying anything like "Who cares? It's just an exhibition game." I mean come on now, Iverson does say and do some bonehead things, but this summer hasn't been one of them. Here's a guy who's always banged up during the season, and yet here he is, giving up his summer to play his heart out for his country- with a broken finger. He was always respectful of the competition and always played hard. What more can you ask of the guy this summer?
I like Iverson. as always. he has a lot of heart, as well as Steve. in the league I like three guys most: AI, TD, and Steve. They all have hearts, touchy. I wish Steve could appear in Athens, but clearly Brown doesn't like him. Anyway, the loss of gold medal might make next Olympic more attractive to US NBA players. I hope I can see them playing and winning in BeiJing four years later.
I think the USA team or organization should just shut up and stop making players excuses. They have enough talents to field at least 4 teams. If they really do need teh best guy for every categories or postions then pretty much it means the world are already catching up then.
but I would say iverson was the heart and soul of this team and we needed him especially at the end of the lithuania game
