Deion Sanders already told the kids at Colorado to transfer. A lot of negative comments being made about Sanders being so blunt. While I feel bad for some of the kids that are already on the team, I do respect Sanders being honest with them. The reality is most coaches, especially coaches that are bringing players with them, end up doing the same thing, they just lead the players on. The kids at Colorado at least now can enter the portal. I will be interested in seeing how Sheduer Sanders does. He was a four star coming out of high school and he has been very successful his first two years in college at a lower level. He has 74 touchdowns and 14 turnovers the last two seasons. He has only played one game against major DI talent and that was a loss to South Carolina and he had two interceptions and one touchdown. I will be rooting for Sanders. While we have had some successful black coaches at the D1 level, they typically had to succeed within the confines of a system that is dominated and grounded in a culture and sytem developed by white men. Sanders does his own thing, and he doesn't really care what conventional wisdom is unless he has seen it be successful. If he does well it will really open up opportunities for others.
Startling. The post above shows his "bluntness" maybe more just A-hole-ish Honestly . . . he WANTS THEM TO LEAVE to open up those scholarships. Can he cut half the team on the 1st day of practice . .. or even tomorrow to open up those scholarships? I dunno much about college scholarships but if they don't leave voluntarily . . . . . I know he can cut them but when will those scholarships become available for him to use Again . . .looking at that 28% number . . . . If I have a scholarships and did not start on an 1-11 team I think I might hold on to it . . . .. (unless I was leaving any way) ONE MORE THING: Colorado changing their scholastic criteria is interesting. I cannot help if the last coach would have gone 1-11 if not for those restrictions Any way . . . it evidently will probably help Prime alot. I have never been a fan of his . . . . ever Rocket River
Context matters. And no coaches can’t just start “cutting” players to open up scholarships Not a big fan of the portal but the numbers in the post look to be transfers across all sports regardless of whether they were scholarship players or not. Max Olsen tweeted this out earlier today.
For all intents and purposes. . . . he snatched their scholarships and according to the above .. .they only have a 28% chance of getting another one. I'd be Pissed Pissed If they don't "hit the portal" . .. then what? When can he cut them and take their scholarship? When will that scholarship be available for him to offer to another kid? Honestly . . .. QUESTION: If I am a coach of say .. . Jackson State (still under contract) . . and I am talking to kids about going to Colorado who play on other college teams already . . . . is their a tampering thing in NCAA? I guess my question is . . .can you recruit kids on other college teams to entice them to enter the portal? If not . . . the NCAA will be a mess in the coming years. Rocket River
How did he snatch their scholarships? I edited my post above so maybe you didn’t see it but a coach can’t just cut players because he feels like it. But to answer your question, yes there is tampering and coaches can’t entice players to enter the portal. There has already been accusations of that. But unless there is a paper trail, almost impossible to prove. IMO, the NCAA is already a complete mess and has been for quite some time.
Another thing I don't agree with the guy about it Colorado made some moves in their academic side to make Prime's transistion better Saying The last coach sucked maybe true . . .but *IF* he didn't have those academic restrictions (which Prime won't have) . . . he could have probably recruited better and not be 1-11 Everyone loves an arrogant loud mouth ******* who can back his sh*t up That encapsulates Prime's career. So we shall see. Rocket River
So Either - They hit the portal . . .or those Scholarships are locked in So it behooves him to encourage them to leave Rocket River
Shape up or ship out. 99% of new coaches will have that exact same message, especially those taking over a 1-11 program.
