The Astros don’t have that problem and they’ve played in the most important games for any team in this city over the last decade (and tons of them). And baseball isn’t the “don’t want to miss a second of action” sport that the NBA and the NFL is. As per my above post, I blame the stale environments/arenas/production just as much as the product on the field/court. MMP is just a much better place to watch a game from all aspects… and you actually want to be in your seats (vs. being out in the club level or suite areas) . And of course having a semi-dynasty helps. Houston is far more a front-runner than a football town.
When there are multiple teams with the same record, divisional tiebreakers are used. Since the colts have a head to head win over us they win the tiebreaker. The Steelers win a tiebreaker against the colts do to a better record in games with common opponents
This is gonna make me sound super old…going to a Texans game is a pain in the ass. It’s an all day affair. Dealing with the traffic. Unlike the other sports, I far prefer to watch Texans games at home. And I love the Texans and rarely miss watching.
I wouldn’t go if these tickets weren’t always just showing up in my lap… I actually remember going to Oilers games in similar fashion (some Houston football season ticket holders never change…). If you go early, very little traffic. Tail-gating fun enough when the weather is pleasant and the team is exciting. But I agree with you… football is perfect on TV. When the stadium is rocking and its pure pandemonium for every big play, it is indeed something to experience… but the environment was not quite there today due to the 20,000+ Broncos fans, tons of injury breaks, penalties (3 punts in a row?!?) and some questionable calls by the refs. And the sub-section of Texans fans still scarred by previous years (albeit, this is an entirely new regime… until you hear “bulls on parade” for the umpteenth time, and you’re fully ready for more Clay Walker to come on…)
If you felt like the Texans were a "real team" like the Astros and Rockets you would feel differently. In your heart you know the Texans are also rans, before a meaningful game is even played you know it. Watching a Texans game is just a thing you do without any real expectations of threatening for a title at any point. That feeling has become deeply set in fans right now and they have got a lot of work to change that. Even with this successful season I feel no better about the franchise because I know they are gonna f**k it up..and you feel that way too.
In the NFL, you merely need to have a legit QB to be a “real team”. Unless fans feel that Stroud will somehow fall off a cliff (or have some personal issue that makes him seem like a deviant), will be hard to keep expectations away from them.
I had season tickets. It has nothing to do with how I feel about this team at all. I had season tickets to the Astros when we were trying to lose and had never won **** before. I’m optimistic about the Texans going forward…very optimistic. My feelings about going to the game are based on exactly what I said. I don’t have a full Sunday to give up like that.
You haven’t been to a Texans game since 2008…. It’s the same. With staleness. More Clay Walker…. (Totally agree on the Rockets… and Toyota Center… my least favorite arena of any stadium/arena in the history of Houston).
To me the biggest problem with TC is that the entire first level on sidelines are a club section with nice bar areas on the concourse. Instead of sitting in your seats, you can grab a drink with the clients or referral sources you invited anyway and actually have a conversation lol. That’s who they built that for. I’ve been guilty of it. But man it makes that lower level seem empty even when all the tickets are sold.
I'd get invites for suites and I still turned down Rockets games during their hay days. I just like watching sports at home, arguing on the internets and eating fairly priced food. The last sporting event I attended was the Dynamo in 2007 against the Chivas and the baby momma was draped in Chivas gear and so was the baby. Never had been more embarrassed in my life*. Dynamo won. cool sturry breh. *no offense to Chivas fans.
Maybe it's just the history the Texans have had over the years. But I always feel like the Texans will find a way to lose the game at the end. I'm glad the Texans are winning one possession games, but I'd love for the Texans to put the games out of reach in the 4th quarter. The offensive line and the running game need major improvements. I think the offense also needs to capitalize and keep the momentum going when the defense causes a turnover. Anyway, 7-5!
The expense of the NFL and the Texans being an absolute dumpster fire over the last few years should not be forgotten when considering how fickle the Houston fanbase can be.
Houston fans have always been, win and they will come. The Texans have a long way to go still for people to truly trust them and come back. It seems people forgot how empty MMP was during those 100 loss seasons. It’s funny how a couple of championships and 4 World Series trips will change that.
For rolling out of retirement, Flacco is looking like the Browns' best qb. But I also see a 5 sack day for Area-51
