I know this isn't totally relevant yet, but I know I was partly torn when CB retired. I wasn't sure who to cheer for. I had followed CB from his rookie year in Philly to Phoenix and finally to Houston. I thought about going back to being a Philly fan, staying with Houston or Sacramento. I was a fan of the way Sacramento played. I finally stayed with Houston just because I knew so much about the team. I also know there are alot of long-time Dream fans on this board, all the way back to his college days. My question is will anyone leave the Rockets "family" to goto Toronto (or whoever he goes to) or will the new team at least become your second favorite team? I will honestly say if CB4 did make his comeback with the Wizards that I would have been really torn, and (gulp) would have become a Waizards fan.
I follow players too, but the Rockets is #1 on my list. I used to follow players such as Moses Malone (when he left Houston), CB (when he left Philly), and Clyde (when he was drafted by Portland) but my #1 team has always been the Rockets. I've followed Hakeem's career since his days at UH. I treasure the time that he has played for us, but the way he's been acting in the last year or so has left a bad taste in my mouth. I won't Boo him (because what he has done is not really that bad), but I won't follow him (make special arrangements to watch his games) like I did with Moses, CB, or Clyde.
The team and city come before any single player in my book. It will be sad and odd if he isnt around but his leaving was inevitable, he was supposed to be retired at this point. ------------------ "banging Shaq is a whole different expirience"-Pete Babcock Behold the power of quotation
I am first and foremost a Rockets fan. If Hakeem joins the Raptors, I hope they fail miserably. I want him to see leaving Houston as one of the biggest mistakes in his career. ------------------ The sky is falling!
I remember hearing/reading some sports broadcaster or writer talking about how in these days you're no longer rooting for a group of players, you are rooting for a uniform. Every year, teams would return basically the same lineups with only a few additions and subtractions. Up until this point, Hakeem was the Rockets. I can't remember a time when the Rockets were without him. However, I probably won't follow the Raptors. Maybe I am just rooting for a uniform, but I like Ziggy's slant. Sports teams are about pride in your city and the ability to bring a bunch of different people together pulling for the same thing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Bullard the only one around from championship days (and he left and came back). ------------------
I was also a Charles Barkley fan, I liked the guy. If he DID come back to the Wizards I would support him and the Wizards as a SECOND favorite team. In other words, I would hope they would win games (except against the Rockets), and hope that Charles finally gets that ring. I would also keep up with them for a bit just to see what happens. But once Charles retired I wouldn't follow them anymore. ------------------ What if I say to you that the universe is a three-legged horse, eh? What then? - Russell Hoban
If we are rooting for the uniform, then maybe I shouldn't be a rockets fan anymore. ------------------
I'll still be an Olajuwon fan. Of course, I am first a Rockets fan, but I will stil root for Dream to do well and win. I have hated the Raptors ever since they picked up Vince Carter (Oakley and the Stoudamire 'trade' didn't help either). But Olajuwon would make me root for them to win the championship (unless the Rockets won the WCF somehow) if he played a key role there. ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
I will always root for Dream in every game he plays-except Vs. the Rockets. I cant change the fact that he introduced me to the Rockets and I respect him for it and all he gave to us. Seeing him in the other uniform will hurt though. I am a Rockets fan first but a Hakeem fan a close second. ------------------ "I may be mistaken, but I'm never wrong" -Barkley
The ideal situation is Raptors play Rockets. Hakeem has a good game and Steve beats the hell out of Carter. Anyway, I think Raptors will still have more national telecast games than Rockets, which means I get to watch Hakeem more. ------------------
I'm a partial fan of Milwaukee only because of Cassell. So, yeah, I guess I have a certain loyalty for some ex-Rockets. ------------------ I am the Kwisatz Haderach.
i have no prob watching players that I have liked when the play for other teams...like Clyde with Portland..or Sam the man with the Bucks..or even Horry with the F**ckin Fakers..but when Dream leaves..I will still be first and formost, A Rockets Fan..I was a Rockets fan before Dream and I will be one after Dream....as was mentioned before..it isn't about the uni..its about pride in where you live and the sports teams that go along with it.. ------------------ This space for rent
I will now have two favorite teams. Although, I will cheer for the Rockets when they play Toronto. ------------------ Protrolls.com! The next person to post on my message board will win a prize! The ZRBucks!
ex-Rockets are like relatives: It's nice to know how they are doin', but I don't wanna hang out with them all the time.... ------------------ www.expage.com/saveourunis
My son's name is Akeem, named after the Dream. There is not way I would not follow the Dream. Plus being in the East (CT), and him playing with Vince, make it even easier to follow him. Having said that, I am and will always be a Rocket. So I now have two pretty special teams. I gain! ------------------
