Sengun came developed. Bari had dad former NBA player. Green made it from the trenches and had worst coach in the history of basketball as his hc. Let him live and cuddle him as you did with KPJ and he will learn (if he wants to and it seems he wants). He a late bloomer
KPJ is better at basketball than Green and it isn't even close - but KPJ is a headcase - and is gone.......Just give me GOOD basketball players. DD
Jalen has already blossomed but is just waiting to be unleashed by Ime. All we need is for Ime to give him the green light and he will score like he always does.
I guess in a warped sense this is true - in the same way that Jock Landale's "ceiling" is Wilt Chamberlain and Hakeem Olajuwon, or my personal financial ceiling is Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos. The question is will it ever be attained. 0% doesn't count.
You may be laughing at what I just said, but Doncic can only dream of being as fast as Jalen... What about that blitzkrieg first step? Can Doncic do that?
Give Green time. Did you see Sengun's interview with Paul George? Jalen was able to do anything that he wanted under Silas and never got yelled at or held accountable. He is literally starting his development from day zero. Alperen had been a professional before getting to the league, he's used to proper coaching. Same as all the guys that went to NCAA, they got coached. Silas did absolutely nothing for Jalen Green.
Patience is certainly a virtue. Jalen is only 21 and in his third year. It's time to stop viewing him as if he hasn't progressed. He has the full offensive arsenal at his disposal now. Is there a way for opposing teams to defend him without double-teaming? It's nearly impossible, as you've seen. ...
He had a covid year in the g-league and two years with a coach that didn't emphasize accountability. This is his first year in a true pro environment that actually helps players grow. That's not an excuse or pass for him but it's closer to his reality than thinking of him as a 4th year pro in a vacuum. The Rockets aren't trying to only win now. They are also trying to win long term. Green growing as a player is in the best interest of them team even if it's for future trades. He's improved this year but still has a lot to work on because he's having to change almost every area of his game from last year. Accept that it's going to be a painful process for him and fans and hope for the best. Also, the offense often struggles when he sits because we don't have anybody that the defense has to worry about getting to the basket. Udoka isn't just playing him for the hell of it. He's playing him because it makes the team harder to defend and on the nights where he is playing well the team is very hard to beat. We just need more of those nights.
Stock is low on Jalen for now, but I'm certainly not ready to give up on him. If he gets his act together, the Rockets could take that next step.
Why is the stock currently low? Is it because Ime hasn't given him the green light to ISO freely? Also, we shouldn't forget how we won against the Grizzlies.
Pretty much. Like rich parents that let their kids do whatever. They never learn anything that way. Green has never felt the repercussions of his actions. Like yo...we lost because of *you*. They don't want to lose anymore. When you feel that responsibility, it hits different. Jalen will have this year and next to figure it out. He wont get an extension based off this year alone. Sengun will, for sure. I can't get over his defense and how improved it is. Both Jalen and Sengun. Incredibly coachable kids. Jalen was a +5 yesterday and is often time tasked with playing without Fred/Dillon. He leads the bench brigade. Amen needs to come back pronto.
Not in a team basketball sense he’s not. I’ll give Jalen credit, at least when he’s bad he fades into the background. KPJ was ball dominant and played at his own pace to the detriment of the rest of the team. When KPJ played, “he was the system” much like Harden, but not as good.
I wasn't really replying to you, just the general consensus after reading through this thread. I agree with most of what you're saying, but some drafts just aren't that good and some don't have any cornerstone players. Assuming Jalen doesn't turn a corner at some point this year, my "ceiling" for him would change from a top 15-20 player to a top 30-40 guy, which is still a valuable guy to have. Whether he reaches that level on the Rockets or not, who knows. He's not untouchable at all for me, no one is outside of Sengun at this point. But I wouldn't just dump him for a "win now" move, since we have other young guys that clearly aren't ready to win now either.
Remember Rookie Kobe Bryant shooting Airball 3 Pointers against Utah Jazz in the Playoffs and got Eliminated. Shaq didn't blame Kobe but put his hand on his shoulder and said he liked his confidence.
He was terrible at basketball according to everybody but Raffy Stone, which is why he's out of the NBA and other domestic violencers are still in. If he were actually good - he'd be with at team and playing now.
From being a reliable 8th man. It is embarrassing the organisation was duped by a highlights video from the G League which..... wasn't even that impressive to begin with.
