Mason Crosby, Ryan Succop and Robbie Gould are all better kicking options than either Ammendola or Maher.
A big key is where are they now? Stats show where they have been. They still have to determine whether the NFL adjustment has been made and whether they are ready to play. There's more to kicking than just getting up off the couch.
Mason Crosby lifetime made FG% = 81% Ryan Succop = 83% Robbie Gould = 86.5% Matt Ammendola = 65% In a game of inches (as we saw last Sunday) you can do better than Matt Amendola. Maybe the other 3 guys I mention dont want to play football anymore, but I'd venture to guess that we could still do better than Matt Ammendola and it appears the team figured that out - better late than never.
He was actually pretty good last year...29 of 32 overall...9 of 11 from 50+ with a 60 yarder. As good as he was last year, he was equally bad this year with the Rams (17 of 23 overall...3 of 7 from 50+) til they cut him last month after missing 3 kicks in a loss to the Steelers. Probably an improvement over Ammendola, but still not good. I forgot he was on the Texans PS in 2020.
Ahem...that was from Nov. 6th If Maher flames out, I reserve the right to claim that being an NFL GM is not my primary occupation... lol Beat the Broncs & the Mavs!
I wonder if Matt Ammendola is nails during practice and then craps his pants once the game starts...They are overthinking it, they already have a kicker who is perfect in his kicks this year...Ogunbowale
He's been as good as Nelson when he has played. Thought it was beyond odd that he didn't get a snap since Stingley's return. I don't like it one bit. He was so happy after the Bengals game.
