That's exactly what I remember. And his dunks, it was like he was playing on a nerf basketball goal....you'd just see this giant hanging on the goal by just one hand.... He was a big piece of that perfect chemistry the Rockets had back then.
Othis Thorpe - the most underrated Houston Rocket ever. The guy was just aboslute brute strength. Dont know anything about his personal life or the behind the locker room door issues but I know what I saw and what I saw was a workhorse that neighed and kicked off the threeheaded dungheap of Anthony Mason, C. Oakley, and Charles Smith, during that nba finals series. and you guys are right,, those palm dunks made me say holy shiat. the up-and-under-scoop-one-hand-palm-dunk-on-their-face.... that made me want to buy a nerf bball and lower the goal and dunk on my neighbors kids heads!
OT was at his best when Hakeem was NOT on the court. They seemed to have problems meshing as a unit together. I knew OT, liked him, and was sorry to see him go. Gee, did we get anyone good for him?
Good for Chucky! How can these guys with marginal talent not realize that their longevity will be predicated on things other than their number of appearances on ESPN's Top Ten.
Otis Thorpe lives in Round Rock. I actually saw him at McDonalds and I yelled out "OT!" He gave me a thumbs up! What a true Rocket hero. Otis, Vernon, Mario, Sam and Kenny. The gritty Rockets of old, the ones that fought aversity. Those were the good old days!
