    Euro Football/Soccer Talk thread

Anyone else out there an EPL fan? I'm a huge Arsenal fan and am loving their start to the season. I figure they should handle Chelsea and ManU just ain't the same team anymore. Comments or predictions?

Oh, and I think this should be the Arsenal's year for the Champions League as well!

Boo! ManU is done. Stick a fork in 'em. Season tickets are nice though. I didn't realize you had a lot of business in Manchester. When we were in London we got to use my wife's firm's corporate box at Highbury which rocked.

Are you Jose Morinho? Chelsea was in the semis of the champions league last year (while teams like Real Madrid were not). I guess time will tell.

Villa: I don't really care for David O'Leary, but he does seem to get a lot out of his teams. They got Fox-in-the-box'd tonight though by Franny Jeffers.

Strange. I thought those players won a world cup and a Euro competition?

Sadly the team I cheer for no longer participates in the Premier League.

I'm hoping Charlton can push for a Champion's League place, that would be fantastic - I'm a big fan of Curbishley and the work he's done. I think they've got a decent chance with Robson officially entering lame-duck status, ManU's milk carton team and Liverpool having to adjust.

Wrong, United currently have 11 of their players including 5 starters either injured, suspended or on Olympic duty, and we still only lost by a goal to Chelski at Stamford Bridge. Come October, Rio's suspension will be over and Hienze will be back from the Olympics, so the defense should be sorted out. Saha will be back this Saturday and RVN has another month out with a hernia, but once they're both back along with Alan Smith, who has been briliant since coming over, plus its now looking like we'll be adding Wayne Rooney in the next week or so. With those 4 we have the best strike force in the world. Don't get on your high horse quite yet Gooners, we're not going down without a fight.

EPL Bah. It's easy to pull for teams that are on TV and in the news all the time. Try pulling for a conference team like I do.

None of those players were integral parts of the World Cup Squad. Maybe Henry, but no the rest.

They were a big part of the Euro triumph though.

Liverpool fan here, pissed at the sale of Owen. Just waiting for Morgan to take over the board, and inject that 50M for transfers and then we can make a challenge. As of now, I'm thinking 2nd or 3rd place would be great.

    Better than Raul/Owen/Ronaldo? Highly doubtful.

Didn't ManU and Arsenal play today? Who won and how was the game? A business associate was discussing the game today in my company. I could use this information for the conversation value.

    gracias.

I scoff at your premise - it's only easy if the club is on TV and the news for the right reasons - and every new mention of them doesn't turn out to be increasingly disastrous news.

    They didn't play each other.

Arsenal smoked Blackburn 3-0 to set a record for Top Flight Games Unbeaten - a mind-boggling 43 in a row.

ManU won by a similar score to qualify for the Champion's League Group Stages over Dinamo Bucharest.

Cesc is AWESOME. Its unreal that he's this good at 17. I can understand that you'll miss him! But one man's poison is another man's wine. Just ask Marseille ;) (although Flamini is nowhere near as good as Cesc). Cesc won't be starting much longer though with Viera and Edu coming back.

I like Charlton too. They go about there business with a pretty professional attitude. Personally I think Franny will finally emerge now with Charlton. He just never really got on track with Arsenal because of all the injuries he suffered when he first came over. If Arsene thinks he's good enough to be a star then there ain't much more to say. Arsene knows.

ManU just doesn't scare people anymore. They're the third best team in the EPL at best. Alan Smith has been very good so far. Far better than people predicted, but Rio's overrated. I'll take Sol and Kolo anyday at the heart of the defense. As for scoring power - Pires, Reyes, Henry, Bergkamp and fast Freddie are smoking. I don't expect ManU to go down without a fight. Your spirit is the only thing that's kept you near or at the top the last few years. But its not going to be enough. As for Wayne Rooney, the latest word is that mighty ManU can't AFFORD him - haha. Keep in mind that we're playing without Viera, Edu and Sol right now as well, so we aren't even at full strength yet either.

I am worried about Chelsea though. Morinho looks like he knows what he's doing (I did like the Tinker though). I actually like Benitez too. I think the coaching aptitude is definitely going up in the EPL.

TraderJorge, the soccernet page on ESPN does an ok job of updating the goings-on in soccer/football fyi.
