I think it's indisputable that Alpi has played better than Paolo so far this season. However, it's a small sample size. Sengun also has a year of NBA experience on Banchero while being the same age. Jury's still out on who will have a better career, but that in and of itself is very impressive given that Paolo was a #1 overall pick and he hasn't necessarily been disappointing so far. Sengun has legitimately elevated himself to that level, and that's fantastic for us.
I agree completely. It’s also why I wanted Chet so bad, to pair with Alp and Jalen. I don’t think Jabari can be better than either upside wise. But I think his low side of 3&D stretch 4 is valuable. Chet has legit injury concerns and Paolo has efficiency concerns that could limit them reaching their potentials.
He would not have a place at the rotation. Too small to defend and rebound as PF, and Tate is more important than him as SF (defense, hustle, creation, even 3pt % now).
Chet looks good man. My saving grace is that we didnt have a chance at either Paolo or Chet. Jabari reaching a consistent 3&D player looks like a best case scenario so far compared to his contemporaries from that draft. Mobley over Jalen could be the more valid argument.
Listen I was in the camp of trade Sengun because I didn't think his archetype worked and thought to build around Jalen Green/Jabari Smith. This was before last season. After last season I changed my tune and didn't even want Brook Lopez because I thought he'd potentially start over Sengun and I'd rather just see if Sengun could develop a 3 pointer. Now I'm like....this guy might be the best player drafted in the last 3 drafts when it's all said and done. His flamingo shots and shot-puts are the reason we're 6-6. If his guards could hit the broad side of a barn or weren't made to play the Clippers/Lakers/Warriors on the road 3 times in 4 nights we'd likely be 8-4 or 9-3. I get people's fascination with Wemby but Sengun with a legitimate intelligent SG/PG hybrid like FVV is straight up problematic for other teams. It's almost Harden in his prime level of unfair.
i'm excited to see Amen + Sengun. Amen cutting to the basketball should be an easy 6-10 points a night (think Kenyon Martin Jr)
I'm with you, we just need some more options. It's not like KJ has rotation spot in Philadelphia. Might as well get him back and maybe give him spot minutes on occasion. I'd imagine it wouldn't take much to bring him back.
Come bro, leave Clutch alone. He will eventually post an article of how wrong he was on Sengun, ask for forgiveness, and all will be right with the world again.
Whether Banchero will be a superstar will depend on whether he can score efficiently. His shooting was terrible in his rookie year. It has improved a lot this season so far with less 3pt attempts. But .552 TS% for a big man is still not very good. Sengun had the same efficiency already as a rookie who was being suppressed by coaching. This season so far, Sengun is scoring more at a much higher efficiency and has better assist and rebound numbers.
Although it is true that Sengun has one more year of NBA experience, his first two seasons were being held back while Banchero was an important part of Orlando's offense from Day 1.
I'll take Sengun over Paolo any day. Centers with premium passing skills are rare. We created countless open shots passed or hockey assists by Sengun, but our players were unable to knock them down. Paolo's skillsets are much easier to find in the NBA.
People focus a lot of Senguns passing, but I'm more impressed at his touch and scoring. The guy is a walking bucket when he hits the paint against anyone in the league.
