Did Argentina actually count all of the ballots in hours? When I saw the results around 1pm central US time yesterday, which is about 22 hours after polls closed in Argentina, the live result showed that 80% of ballots have been counted. The result is just so lopsided that the result can be unofficially declared.

Edit: I was mistaken. Looking back at all of the news articles, it was showing that about 97% counted by 11pm Argentina time.

What percentage of ballots were counted in the slow counties in the US by the end of the night? Argentina is very efficient and US should learn from their process.

He and many MAGA are not serious about fixing any election issues but rather aim to continue hanging onto Trump's big lie that the election was stolen. It's a waste of time to explain anything to these people.

As for improving our elections, there is plenty of room for improvement, but by and large, Republicans (and some Democrats as well) aren't interested. For example, in states like Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, state laws disallow the processing and counting of mail-in ballots until Election Day. Before the 2020 election, it was known that this law meant election results would likely not be known until days later, as the number of mail-in ballots was expected to increase drastically, and each envelope needed to be processed by hand, one at a time (a process entirely different from machine-read paper or electronic ballots). States that allowed processing as mail-in ballots came in didn't have the same long delay. The election laws in these 3 states are set by Republicans, who then turn around and complain about them. They could do something to fix them, but they didn't.

Once again, it's best to ignore these MAGA supporters using these examples as if there is an integrity issue with the election. They are insincere or too blind to listen to reason.

Apropos of nothing really, but my favorite "Argentine Election" thing I was made aware of while I lived there:

Politician "A" comes into the poorest sections of the cities, with trucks full of shoes...

he proceeds to give away "left footed" shoes to everyone, and promises to come back and give the "right shoes" if his candidate wins.

It's mandatory voting, there, btw.

Politics is sports now, so this is like when people get all geeked up over some otherwise obscure tournament or league because there's nothing going on in the majors right now.

As for Milei, Argentina has fundamental problems and, despite his shortcomings, he was the only one willing to properly address that. I wish him luck and hope he follows the blueprint set forth by Bukele.

Nut jobs with no political experience who are outrageous or famous "influencers" etc. are all trying to win political office. Call it the Trump model.

As his policies create more inequality under the frequently discredited "trickle down" model we will probably see a lot of social unrest. Hopefully this does not lead to a return of the Argentinian dictatorship supported by the United States during the 1960's and 70's.

International finance initially will try to help out as usual by giving more loans that Argentina can repay without the usual requirements to cut wages, health education and welfare for the average person.
