I am listening to "Endtroducing" by DJ Shadow in my car and there is one sample that I know I have heard somewhere before, pretty sure it was in a movie, on the track "Napalm Brain/Scatter Brain": Ah, ah, ha ha ha well, hello there little buddy, come on in! Whatcha got there with you? That your dog? Guess there's no reason you can't have dogs up there on the moon, that's a good pretty good looking pooch.... Betcha come back for more of dr. neptune's delicious elixir is that right? Ha ha ha i knew you would i'll get that for ya... Oh, i see, you figured out where it is, didn'tcha. Well, alright, i'll tell you what i'll do, i'll set up the checkerboard here, We'll have us another game of checkers... One without all that cheatin' you done last time... We ain't gonna have no more of that i can tell ya'... I seen what you done... [(?)] glasses like that up there on the moon... The part I bolded I remember the most, for some reason. I like to say that I heard this in "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" but I can't say that for sure. Can anyone help me with this?
If it is a song sample then it could be: Original Soul Senders: Soul Brothers Testify (Pt. 1) or Daly-Wilson Big Band: My Goodness thats all I could find.
Palm, I think it is from a movie. Normally, it would not concern me as my ears have heard enough samples to last a lifetime. But this one sounds so familiar to me, that it is bugging me that I can't remember it.
For some reason, this sounds like 'The Neverending Story' to me, but I don't think that's right (the dog would be the giant luck dragon).
I LOVE DJ Shadow... and Endtroducing is a fantastic album... but that doesn't help me know where that line comes from.
Oh well, I thought it was worth a shot to ask here since I could not find it anywhere else. Thanks for the effort guys (I'm not saying that sarcastically).
Four weeks later.... For some reason that I can't remember, I tried looking again. Googling ["napalm brain" sample] turned up some reviews of DJ Shadow's live DVD, In Tune and On Time, which say that he plays the movie scene during his performance of the song. ["dr. neptune's delicious elixir"] was no help, but ["doctor neptune"] returned a chapter title for the DVD of The Aurora Encounter: ["the aurora encounter" "napalm brain"] turned up this page. I can't read the Chinese, but it has the movie as a source for the song. So, I'm 99.44% sure that's where the sample in question comes from. This is much more fun than actually working -- and just as profitable!
Wow, great work Kimble! I say that you are probably right about it coming from that movie. It was funny reading the main user comment on imdb.com about it!
