The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou -- Link to trailer! --You will need Quicktime to view it! Wes Anderson is god! Another amazing cast and thank the powers that be, that Bill Murray took a chance and invested and was cast in Rushmore, cause he's been in every Wes Anderson movie since and is just f**king amazing! On the downside, I think there's too much CGI... I never thought I'd see CGI in a Wes Anderson flick. Regardless, I am stoked and have to wait until xmas for this one.... grrrr!
I was lukewarm on The Amazing Tenenbaums, but Rushmore and Bottle Rocket were great. This looks pretty funny, however.
eh... hate to be a snob, but it's The Royal Tennenbaums... this does look pretty funny... some similarities I've already noticed... 1. In Rushmore, they were trying to clear the baseball diamond to build... an Aquarium. There was also a reference to a Jacque Cousteau book. 2. In Bottle Rocket, they wore uniforms to rob the (what was it... Ice Plant, Meat Packing plant... whatever) 3. Pools seem to be something that shows up in most Wes Anderson flicks... the pool in Rushmore, jumping in the pool in The Royal Tennenbaums, there was a pool scene in Bottle Rocket and now the pool diving clip in this movie. Regardless, I'm a huge Wes Anderson fan and can't wait for this one!!
what I love about Wes Anderson is his attention to detail, especially in "The Royal Tenenbaums". every room in that house, every one of richie's paintings, Margot's plays. also, don't forget, rH, that Richie was at sea for a while before he returned home, there's another link. "You guys have it real easy. I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and your going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you."
Christmas? Screw that. I can not wait. PS: Richie: Did you say you were on Mescaline? Eli: I did indeed. Very much so.
I'm sure most of you know this, but Wes is from Houston and went to St. Thomas, which I believe was used as Rushmore Academy. The Rushmore Acdemy sign from the movie is now inside Mary Janes/Fat Cats over on Washington, and it makes me incrediblky jealous.
It was St. Johns, actually, he was a couple of years in front of me. Interesting that Rushmore had no girls at the school, though. He used it in the movie. Made it tough to watch in some ways, actually, scenes taking place in 8th grade math class. He also used Lamar. Rushmore might be untouchable, what a beautiful movie.
The scene where Bill Murray is just sitting there slowly tossing golf balls into the pool at that birthday party is one of the funniest non speaking scenes ever. Murray is a great silent comedian.
What music is playing there? Is that "Quick One" by the Who? I forget. Whatever it is -- oh wait, maybe "Nothin In The World" by the Kinks... I need to rent it again, I love that scene too. I just remember thinking what a good choice of music that was. I think it's the Kinks, actually. Great scene, agreed.
Interesting that Wes has switched writing partners for this one. He co-wrote his first 3 films with Owen Wilson; on the credits at the end of this trailer it says that the co-writer for The Life Aquatic is some guy named Noah Baumbach. Wonder what the story is there. Rushmore, by the way, is one of the few movies for which I would not change a single line of dialogue, note of music, line reading, or set design. It's pretty much a perfect movie.
I guess Owen was too busy hanging out with Ben Stiller and being a "movie star" to sit down and write with Wes. Baumbach did do a pretty good movie back in the slacker-boom days called "Kicking & Screaming".
Thanks rH... I've been waiting for this movie forever... glad to see its finally on its way. The trailer looks great. You mean you dont OWN it already??? Pick up the Criterion Collection edition on DVD. Easily one of the best looking DVD transfers I've seen... x34
