I love Sengun man. I just love high IQ players and i think his game is incredibly beautiful to watch. For years my favourite player in the NBA (outside of Rockets) was Jokic and I couldn't be more happy that we have Alpi. I still remember saying that I wanted the Rockets to draft him if they could somehow trade up to get him anywhere close to pick 10. I was so sure Spurs were going to take him and I couldn't believe that they didn't. I'm so glad OKC ****ed up.
“Obviously, you see the fancy passes, behind-the-back no-looks, and all that. It reminds me of some [Arvydas] Sabonis stuff, who I grew up watching a little bit in Portland,” Udoka tells me. “It’s almost like he gets bored with the game at times and wants to try to make the difficult pass instead of the simple one because he sees it ahead of time.” lol
Big praise there to be compared to Sabonis tbh, you love to see it. I've always just seen it as part of the obvious joy Alpi plays with. How many rookie bigmen do you see flexing in the faces of NBA vets right from the off, throwing no look DIMES, and having wacky free throw routines? Beyond all the skill, his personality might actually be the thing I like most about him. How many times can you legitimately say that about an athlete?
Old Sabonis is way before his time, even way before Udoka's time, Udoka probably got to see the 39-40 year old Sabonis who was already on his way out.
Udoka is from Portland, and graduated from high school in 1995, the year Sabonis the Elder debuted for the Trailblazers. He also played for Portland State from 1999 - 2000, the year when the Blazers blew game 7 of the WCF to the Lakers to start the Shaq/Kobe dynasty. Guessing he would be pretty familiar with Sabonis' best NBA years contemporaneously. Sabonis is also younger than both Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon, so if we're ok with every scoring guard saying that they idolized MJ growing up, and to put Dream's legacy on every big who comes through Houston, I don't think comparisons to Arvydas Sabonis for young international guys should be out of bounds.
I forgot but Sabonis did not join the Blazers before he was 30........he selected Valladolid and Real Madrid first for his time after the Sowjet Union.
Has 6 turnovers but got shafted by the refs in multiple occassions so i can't really **** on him but still has to do better.
Agreed, wasn't his best game, hopefully, he learns from it. Zubac got the better of him two possessions in a row. Can't win them all.
Despite not being one of his better games, he still had a decent game. Hopefully coaching goes over the game tape with him. He played decently down the stretch. We really need him to fix his free throw issue and he doesn't need to take the one legged shot so far away from the basket.
Some nights it feels like Sengun is the only building block we got from tanking 3 years in a row. Tonight is one of those nights. Jabari is cool on defense but too soft on offense, same with Tari nice piece on defense but a bonehead on offense, Amen needs time, & finally Jalen. Am I the only one who thinks he is the exact same player he was his rookie season?
Yea just u. If u think Jalen green is the same player he was when he first came, u are just exposing yourself as a Jalen green hater. Green back then was btch by many anti green folks for his lack of defense and his inability to draw fouls, etc. Etc. The green now under ime is a much better player. Whether he's franchise material is still up in the air but he is wayyyy better now than his rookie season
