Bregman won't get close to what Machado got. I think Bregman is gone if he reaches FA, but I suspect he gets something like 7/$210M, while Astros only offer something like 5/$150M
Dude isn't getting the Machado bag for a lot of reasons. Bregman will get a good chunk of money but it isn't going to start with a "3".
I personally think he will stick at 3B and has a chance to be very good defensively. I have seen blurbs about him ending up at 1B but I think that’s just a body type deal.
I would think Crane would want to do his best to optimize the Yordan prime years that he’s locked in for. Really no point in fielding a barely .500 team with a god at DH.
I have him penciled in at third base to begin the season in 25 and maybe even sooner if a mid-season trade of Bregman in 24 looks lucrative enough. 1st base candidates I like are Loperfido and Melton.
I believe it is his best fit if he is to stick with the Astros. I am so unfamiliar with Brown that I really have no other basis than my personal thoughts on the matter.
This is basically how I see it. Personally- I would offer him something like 8/200 but I think he gets 7/210 and my bet is our top offer is like 5/140 or 5/150.
Crane is gonna offer Breggy $175M/6yr and he will end up getting $230M/7yrs from another team. Diamondbacks, Dodgers, Yankees, Giants, Mariners, Cubs all options.
That’s plausible if he has a good season for sure in 2024. Closer to 5 he probably gets your number. Closer to 3 he probably gets mine. But yea- crane will be a year or 2 and 50M shy on his offer I would bet.
Honestly Fvck Crane if he let's Bregman walk. It's one thing when you have studs to fill in that are coming up like we have for years but it's time to pay up. Extend the window.
I want Bregman but you can't overpay for him and somebody no doubt will. If we can't keep him, hopefully they trade him so we can at least get some kind of a return.
I’m ok with not paying Bregman compared to correa and Springer. It will suck but he’s a corner player and he’s good, not special at the plate.
This seems pretty shortsighted. I would prefer trading Dubon as Jake probably has better days ahead of him if allowed to play regularly. Not been very impressed so far with the limited moves Dana has made with the ML roster.
Dubon is a utility guy. Jake can only play OF. Jake also likely had more trade value. In terms of roster building, it makes sense to trade Jake if a good deal is out there. Don't forget we got Yanier (and Maton) for Straw.
