If Cam can't learn to make a positive contribution while playing off the ball and being the 3rd or 4th option on offense, he'll never become an NBA rotation player. He's not destined for stardom in the NBA; maybe in China or the Philippines. At best, he strikes me as 6th or 7th man material on a really good team in a few years.
I get my hopes up for our late firsts because everyone hypes them up, I was excited for JC, TyTy, and now Cam, hoping we finally made a good pick that we can use. I was surprised how little he was being used. I assume he just doesn't know how to play defense yet.
I don't think I can watch the 2nd half... seriously, this is painful to watch. And here's something you won't see on a Cam Whitmore highlight reel. C'mon Cam, a cornball turnover and then an airball is no way to end a half :
Looks like our guy has some serious growing up to do. It is a damn good thing we have some structure in place now that will allow it to happen. Udoka makes the right call, AGAIN.
This is not really true. Some 19-year-olds have far less growing up to do, in fact. Also, don't be so defensive my sensitive friend. I love Cam Whitmore, and it is great that we have some structure around him to support his growth, unlike the last few years.
I love people’s over reactions lmao . Reminds me of people complaining about sengun, green, Jabari … 19 years old .. what can’t people understand about that
Just remember what Kobe's numbers looked like at 19 when he came in the league. Nothing close to his prime Black Bamba numbers. Just need time for these guys to learn.
For 3 years we hear "he's only 21, he's still a kid give him time" with guys like Sengun. Cam is a 19yr old rookie and he's no longer destined for the nba? He's haven't even got a chance lol
If you think 6th man on a really good team in a few years (ie at 22-23 years old) is a bad thing or a sign of someone who belongs in China, you understand even less than it seems.
I think the problem here is that people only get to see the tweets of highlights and boxscores without really watching any of the game. Soon afterwards come the "why is _____ taking up space on the roster when we've got Cam dominating in the G-League? #Fireeverybody". If you actually watch Cam play, you can see why he doesn't get minutes on a team trying to win. If you just read tweets with his numbers and random-ass stats, you don't get that. Of course watching him play requires you to watch some really bad G-League basketball, in general, too, so there's that. As for Cam, I was gung-ho about getting Cam and still am. I think I may have had him around 7 or 8 on my draft list. When I saw him drop out of the top-10 in the draft, I was screaming to move up and get him because anybody outside of the top-10 was probably a big crapshoot anyway, so why not go after a guy with plus upside to gamble on? He's still only 19, so of course he still has growing to do. Just like Alpi, Jalen, Jabari, Amen, etc. And I'm willing to wait 3 or 4 years for him to show me something just like the others. I'm hoping his defensive awareness improves, his general BBIQ improves and his 3 pt. shot becomes money.
Cam will be fine, give the guy time to figure it out. Glad Ime is our coach this time instead of that bum Silas.
