I recall when sengun first played for us we had folks downplaying his skillset with dumb takes like All he has are these flashy passes and that little baby hook, he is only good at the post, etc, etc. It didn't help that most sengunatics are passionate and uber defensive about sengun for any negative takes. I'm just glad folks are viewing sengun more positively
I still think to get “all” the talent “their share”. It would benefit the team for Sengun to take on the WHOLE Ginobili role. Landale or get a defensive role player center to start. Smith needs to operate early and establish himself in games (then we can go back to it later in the game, Otis Thorpe did this when he played with Hakeem for years). He would make teams pay when they doubled Dream at the beginning of games. He would have 12 points in the first 5 minutes of most games. Times have changed BUT bring in Sengun to keep the score board moving and feed the hot hand is just good basketball. Sengun’s skills against second units is just unfair. Sengun can do anything well changing up a little to help the team not going to hurt him. I maybe the only one to think this but it is maybe the only thing Silas did right, IMO.
All comparisons are wrong including Jumbo Ginobili. He's combination of different players but he reminds me of Al Jefferson more than anyone else. He's like 50% Al + 30% Jokic + 19% Vucevic + .5% MJ + .4% Lebron + .1% Kwame.
Some people cannot handle being wrong. The success of the Rockets takes a backseat to their ego. A few might say "I'll be happy to be proven wrong", but fewer still actually mean it.
Considering the team is losing by 12 points per 100 possessions with Sengun off the court, it may not be wise to bring him off the bench if you like winning basketball.
I don't trust BPM but LEBRON is another more advanced stat that has Sengun as a top 20 player. The best stat is EPM, which I'm subscribed to but needs 10 games of sample before it comes out.
Peak at Fvv at 30 here even though he has shot like crap. Once Fred bounces back we have two top 20 players on the team, if you are wondering why the team looks so good and if it will last.
It is ironic that in his first year the excuse for Sengun not starting was 'he is good because he is playing against the second units'. Now when he starts and plays well against first units, the argument is 'he should play with the second unit because he is good against first units.'
no there was a legit excuse for his first year and it was his stamina was lacking. i thought it was reasonable for him to be eased into getting more mins b/c sengun was huffing and puffing it just that the mins never came consistently since silas has a hard on for c. wood
The stamina issue was real, which took me time to accept, but the argument I talked about was independent of that. Also the stamina issue was used basically to justify all of Silas’s stupid actions like giving him about 15 min etc.
I think Green and Smith are still untapped and need space to work within. Fred and Dillion are stable. Of course Sengun is our best player but we have two others that need real help to develop. If / When they become consistent we will be unstoppable. Smith NEEDS his number called a lot in the first quarter. Using Sengun as the knock out punch is thought, him getting starter’s minutes and putting games away early. The role that Ginobili had.
