    If a person immigrates from Latin America to the US, but their offspring no longer speak Spanish, should they still be considered Hispanic?

    Hispanics are now 19.1% of the U.S. population but are projected to make up 26.9% of the population in nearly four decades.


    The U.S. Latino population, now about 1 in 5 Americans, is projected to continue increasing through the year 2060, when over 1 in 4 Americans are likely to be Latino, according to U.S. Census Bureau projections released Thursday.

    Hispanics are now 19.1% of the U.S. population but are projected to make up 26.9% of the population in less than four decades. Meanwhile, the non-Hispanic white population is projected to continue to decline from 58.9% now to 44.9% by 2060.

    Depends on how "light" hispanics will look.

    Many mixed children of caucasian plus hispanic parents would probably pass as white in most situations, esp if theyre on a white collar track.

    I guess the change in midwest Am will be more jarring like italians settling in those areas or something.

    Any history buffs recall how germanic folk were treated in the 1800s? Seems their work Northern Euro ethic was more aligned to anglo puritans than the Southern Euro Mediterranean style.

    Intereating question. What does Hispanic mean? If it means American with a Spanish last name, then they would be Hispanic. If it means having significant cultural connections to the people of Latin America, then no. Mexicans on down to Chileans consider all Americans gringos no matter their last name.

    These are just thoughts. I know its a more complex but i think ideally the world would just be under one flag, i think borders are outdated, resources are abundant but borders are more than protecting resources obviously.

    That being said its crazy, in 1965 the Hispanic population was 4%. The focus was on blacks catching up to whites but that was never going to happen. I can't remember when the anti Hispanic immigration talk started but its too late for the people who don't want it.
