I was wondering when the Kings troll would pop up with his "I-told-you-so's."

Webber didn't want to stay in Sacramento. But the luxury tax forced teams to balk at taking him on.

I don't know if Webber would have signed with the Rocks if given the chance, but it's all moot now. I wanted him on the team until I understood how much cap space he would claim.

I will say this: the Kings will be pretty damned good. (pause) During the regular season. (another pause) And yes, we might not make the playoffs again, but I like our chances.

While we're thanking Michael, we'll thank Kobe and Shaq for sending Sacramento home early the last 2 years.

Thank you.. I have said for about a year now that the Kings hold the cards when it comes to Webber.. I was told by everyone what an idiot I was, that Webber can force the Kings to do what ever he wanted.. Even though I, or you, don't really know why webber stayed, its nice to know that when other teams fans have nothing to say about Webber now that the only thing they can fall back on is the same thing I said all along.

This should be fun, the Sacramento Kings and their fans might become the Utah Jazz of the new millenium, their fans coming over and bragging and laughing about their team, who routinely have a nice regular season and then flame out in the playoffs. The NEW Utah Jazz!

I recognize why the Kings were swept, and its good that you recognize how the Rockets won them titles.

And when Michael comes back this year, should the Lakers and Spurs thank him also?

I think the Spurs should just thank god if they even make the playoffs.. actually, you guys would do well to try and clear cap room again for the Duncan FA period in a couple of years. If you guys could land Duncan, you would be an instant contender.

Well it's also good that you recognize that it wasn't the "great" Kings, the Jazz, the Knicks, won a championship in '94, and '95, it was the Rockets number 1. And Michael was around in 1995 and he didn't do anything. So let me see, you brag about getting Chris Webber back, we brag about winning championships. To bad the Kings don't even have an "asterick" championship to celebrate!

The Spurs will be in the playoffs, the only team better then them are the Lakers, and no getting a better PG does NOT make the Kings better then the Spurs. I expect the Spurs and Mavs to battle it out for the #2 seed, with the loser settling in as a #3 seed. Now that the Spurs have a good defensive player and shooter in Bowens, they are much better.

Hey, look its Jordan playing in 1995, i believe this was the game where he scored 55 against the knicks. Who won the championship this year?

SandB/Bill -- I didn't take you for a troll, but that's all you're doing in this thread. How old are you? I say 12, tops. I mean you're talking about how the Kings swept the Rockets last season and Jordan was not around in 1994 in a thread about Hakeem and a Toronto press conference. Nice.

Everyone else -- be more mature than this idiot and stick to the topic. Please. Thanks...

Here's an article that was posted last night about the press conference. It's about as clear as mud, but my guess would be that it's about Carter agreeing to an extension.

    Carter close to a decision

    By MICHAEL GRANGE
    From Tuesday's Globe and Mail

Toronto — The Toronto Raptors have had a good summer so far. Indications are it could get much, much better.

After signing free agents Antonio Davis, Alvin Williams and Jerome Williams to long-term deals earlier this month, sources close to the team and even Vince Carter himself are hinting the franchise star is close to an agreement worth approximately $88-million (all figures U.S.) that would keep him in a Toronto uniform until 2008.

"Vince is very happy with the direction of the team and the energy around it right now," Carter's agent, Merle Scott, said. "When you sign three major pieces of the puzzle, that shows the confidence those people have in the team.

"I know he's happy that they're back. They've set the stage for Vince to make his decision."

The announcement of the six-year deal could come as soon as Wednesday. It's the first day of the three-month window under the National Basketball Association's collective bargaining agreement during which the Raptors can negotiate an extension that would come into effect for the 2002-2003 season.

Routinely non-committal on contract matters, Carter told reporters at his basketball camp in Toronto Monday that a decision about his basketball future is close.

"A lot has happened to the team for [the] better," Carter said. "I don't want to keep, keep, keep everytime worrying myself over it. I'm thinking [Wednesday] I want to make my decision. I can't really tell you [but] I want it to be soon, it's time for me to start getting back in shape and fine-tuning myself for my season."

And general manager Glen Grunwald may have one more card to play to help convince his star that Toronto is where Carter should spend the prime years of his career.

Negotiations with Houston Rocket veteran centre Hakeem Olajuwon are going well, with one source close to Raptors management saying Monday that a deal is near.

"I'm hoping it is," the source said. "You never now until they sign, but things are looking good."

The Raptors can offer Olajuwon, a 12-time all-star, a four-year contract worth $22-million a year, more than double what the Rockets had reportedly offered.

"We are prepared to move as quickly as Hakeem wants to move," Grunwald said. "But we're also prepared to be patient."

As for Carter, 24, he refused Monday to be more specific about his intentions, or even if he'll be making an announcement at all, jokingly saying that he's planning a press conference for Canada's Wonderland Wednesday.

His coyness may be because he promised he would tell his family of his plans first. "I have nothing to tell you," he said when pressed. "It wouldn't be fair to my family, I can't imagine me telling you all that and then my mother reading the paper. . . . I might not make the season next year.

Apart from the odd disclaimer, he did sound like a man preparing to state his mind.

"I don't want it hanging over my head," he said. "I don't want [the news media] bothering me to death. I'm not going kill myself over it. I'm going to give it some thought, and when I wake up [Wednesday] morning, I'm going go with it, just like I did picking a college."

Several sources close to the situation confirmed Scott met this past weekend with minority owner Larry Tanenbaum, with positive results.

"We have to make Vince as comfortable as possible in Toronto," a source close to the Raptors ownership group said. "Vince wants to see a winning team most of all. Glen has put the foundation for that in place. Hopefully [Carter] is feeling the same way. I'm sensing a lot of good vibrations in that respect."

That Carter is even considering signing a contract extension this summer is a significant shift in his earlier statements about his basketball future.

Under the NBA's collective bargaining agreement, if Carter doesn't sign an extension by Oct. 31 he would become a restricted free agent next summer.

In the past, Carter has consistently said he owed it to himself to test the free agent market.

But a source close to Carter said the moves by the team this summer has changed that view.

"He's ecstatic," the source said. "It's never been a concern about the weather, the fans or the city. It's always been about is the team taking the right steps to become a contender, and Glen Grunwald has done an executive-of-the-year job. Now the ball's in Vince's court. He just has to wait for the time to be right for him. . . . Everything looks encouraging."

Will the announcement that Raptors fans and ownership have been waiting for be made this week? The Raptors are planning to meet with Carter and his advisers to make a formal presentation on Aug. 7, an approach similar to how they wooed their other free agents.

But they may have done such a good job signing their other free agents that another meeting with Carter won't be necessary.

"Vince has grown up a lot, in terms of his decision-making," Scott said. "If he makes any decision it will be made of his own accord and it will be based on what's happened around him, and obviously a lot of good things have happened around him."

Wow.. Clutch, maybe you better go back and read my original post.. I was simply saying that Hakeem will stay in Houston, and yes, I did throw some Jabs in there, and after that I was just responding to your regular users. Whats wrong with a little rivalry? Did I get personal and insulting to any one? Maybe you should not take things so personal, and unlike you Clutch, I never once called anyone a name in here, even when iwas called a troll.

And as far as Jordan in 95! come on, the guy played 17 games that year.

shouldn't matter if he played 17 games. He managed to put up 55 in one of 'em.

I'd like to see the Rockets record against the Bulls from say 93-96. We compared favorably even to the Jordan Bulls, and had some big wins...one in particular sticks in my memory where we went on something like a 19-2 run in the 4th quarter led by Dream, which had MJ and Scottie brick several shots in a pretty comfortable Rocket win.

Did you actually read your own post and my response crefully? You said NEXT YEAR, so I said NEXT YEAR. Plus, who knows if we would've won. We had just come back from a 20 point deficit against the Spurs the night before. But who am I to b****? You didn't win a championship, this year after all. So stop your pathetic boasting.

Plus, I was freaking joking, and to explain a little further...I was trying to make the point that the Francis ejection might have been the reason the Kings swept us. Okay, I am not going to post in this thread anymore, for it is for Hakeem and only Hakeem....

I find it funny as hell that when I post something positive about the Rockets you jump up and put my post on your main page, but the first time I come in here and rib you guys a little you get all pushed out of shape and resort to personal attacks.. are you that insecure Clutch?

    RandyBill,
As NIKEstrad mentioned,if my memory serves me correctly the Rockets owned the series with the Bulls during Mike's reign. It's all about matchups and we had the edge. They had no answer for our interior game and we just happened to have the one guy who guarded MJ better than anyone in the league w/Vernon Maxwell.People who really know the game are aware of this and for you to come here with this weak stuff shows such a complete lack of knowledge and respect for the game(not to mention us) it's laughable.
What your doing is not "ribbing",it's classless. To come into our house and try to chip away at the legitimacy of our titles,well....enough said.

Bill, it is quite humorous to here a Kings fan try to talk trash based on accomplishments of that team. (Don't play the whiney victim card-"I didn't insult anyone, all I did was try to discount earned championships of the team this board solely around for"). The Kings have exactly one more playoff victory in your city than the 2nd LA team has in theirs. As far as I can see there is only one set of fans you can talk down to, if there are such a thing as Clipper fans.

I personally think Sac might end up being the 2nd best team in the league next year. Too bad nobody remembers runner-ups, just ask your friends 500 or so miles to the east.
