I really liked the movie. It was one of the best movies I've seen recently. A simple story, but told well. It is about a poor young woman from Columbia who is driven to become a mule transporting drugs to the US. According to the Chronicle the main actress is a Columbian who was in pharmacy school when discovered and this is her first movie. They think she can win the Oscar for best actress in a foreign film. Spanish with English subtitles.

I was going to watch it this past weekend. I'll check it out next weekend. I ended watching Garden State instead.

I have wanted to see this movie but hesitated because it might be very hard for me to watch. I'm sure I will see it eventually.

Rocketman, not overall as depressing as you might think.

Saw it a few weeks ago....not a bad movie.....story could have been better developed - especially the conclusion. But acting was quite good. When you take into account all the crap that Hollywood's put out this year, 'Maria' is definitely worth watching.

btw, another fairly recent South American movie....called 'City of God'.....is tha shizzzznit.....that's already out on DVD i think...

Y tu mama tambien is a Mexican movie based out of Mexico City.

It pales in comparison though to the original breakout movie for Gael Garcia... Amor Es Perros.

That movie rocks and the sound track is amazing also.
