There re two schools of thought. Consensus and Authoritarian. Most GMs are somewhere in the middle, but leaning toward one side or the other. I suspect Caserio leans toward consensus or he would not have survived the last few years. And with the right people in the huddle, he can thrive.

Right or wrong, I think his skill set is as a tactician rather than an evaluator.

While true, this philosophy seems more applicable to premature "bust" accusations. Rookies far more often improve rather than regress. In the case of CJ, I honestly cannot think of many QBs who played great for the first half of their rookie seasons, then went on to have subpar careers. Jameis Winston maybe? It's a really short list. Usually, initial success for a QB is a strong harbinger of future success.

Agreed. I like the trends. But we tend to forget those who flashed and then failed or were injured before making it through the rookie contracts.

Winston doesn't even sniff what CJ is doing atm.

CJ is playing at an MVP level QB right now, and he can still make improvements to his game. He doesn't play a style that makes me worry he'll have a short career due to using his legs; he's a pocket passer and takes care of the ball.

I can't think of a comparison to his start. I just looked at Andrew Luck and Dan Marino and they aren't close either. Does anyone have some ideas of QBs that came out of the gate this fast?

If you factor in his running ability, RG3's game log his rookie year is pretty wild. But I'd take CJ. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/G/GrifRo01/gamelog/2012/

    Agreed

Whoever and I suspect Ryans/Slowik are telling Caserio/Scoutss the types of players they want and these guys need to be scouted. They decide on a handful of guys they want on the team and Caserio moves around in the draft to get these guys. Same thing happens in FA. IMHO

Injury usually is a big factor in QB's success or failure.

I've mentioned this before - but the two best drafts in Texans' history - 2006 and 2023 - coincided with first-year coaches from the Shanahan tree. I don't think that's a coincidence. That system is so specific, they know exactly what type of player they want, and, because they're taking over a bad team, they have the better/higher draft picks to get whomever they want.

Given that Caserio has mostly been a disaster on all previous drafts and free agencies, not to mention his first two coaching hires - I fully buy into this idea that it was DeMeco and his staff running this draft.

@cmoak1982 insisted that it's Matt Ryan... so it MUST be Matt Ryan.

Agreed about Ryans running the draft/Lovie ran the draft in 2022.

I wouldn't say Caserio was a total disaster.

Got Collins who's a very good WR in the draft.

Got Petrie/Harris/Pierce and was unfortunate that the two 1st rd picks got hurt. (Not his fault)

    A Good draft this year.

FA Added M. Collins/Nelson etc... certainly not horrible.

Cmoak is almost always wrong. CJ Stroud is not Matt Ryan.

Lmao. I’ve been wrong once. You are literally never right.
Stroud is still a comp of Matt Ryan. That isn’t a negative, the dude was elite for years.

His Comp is not Matt Ryan. Too many are lazy when trying to compare players. He is not Matt Ryan.
