No one will score 30 points a game with T-Mac as a teammate - not enough shots. If Yao averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks a game, everyone would be happy. Anything more than that is just fantasy.

    Mr. Positive!

One of the problems with Yao in Houston is that he is always chasing the ghost of Hakeem.

Yao is just not the kind of player who can be all over the court causing havoc. He doesn't have the quickness for that even if he developed the stamina.

My biggest concern is that he is never able to develop enough stamina because of the amount of energy necessary to move such a huge body around.

There's a lot to take in consideration here. For one, last year we had a point guard who was our 1st option on offense. Now that we have a pass first point guard for each option, we should see a smoother offense. Also, JVG's game plan does not ask for a lot of points, he wants to win with defense. With something like this, you're never going to see Yao avg. over 22 a game; it may even be a stretch to say that Tmac would avg over 25. I think he is going to have a Tim Duncan type of year. Gets his fair share of rebounds and blocks, and has about 20-22 pts per game. This is assuming that MoTay, Howard, and the rest of our backups play up to their potential.

My prediction: AVG 25 POINTS, 15 REBOUNDS, and 4.5 BLOCKS.

I would think he would be in the lower 20's and no way he has that many blocks per game. Still hasn't got the quickness to block that many shots. He is not a quick jumper, rather he gets most of his blocks by pure height advantage.

    I would go more with

    20 PPG 13.5 RPG and 2 BPG

lol. i hope you are being sarcastic, because houstonforever was.
Anyway, i'd be content if he averaged 20.1ppg,10.7rpg, 2.3bpg. Couple of assists would do fine. I don't think yao will get that much better in rebounding, but i'm pulling for him to average at least double digit.

HMm...Yao's supposed "inconsistency" comes with different matchups he faces.

He dominates aganist some teams while do just okay aganist others. I dont call that inconsistency.

Besides, I rather have an inconsistent dude who averages 20 than some consistent dude who only give me 12.

Yao has shown that he can produce more when given the ball more. Let's not forget that he is maintained his above 50% fg and 80% freethrow percentage in his second year even though he was more involved. That shows great consistency to me.

I don't think he will dominate on most nights. I expect gradual improvement. I hope that he will start doing better against the quicker and more physical players and start overcoming the double teaming and fronting that he faces almost every night. He needs to improve his defense, rebounding and avoid getting quick fouls as well and get fitter. He must come out aggressively in every game.
It's a tall order but he needs to work very hard and remain positive even when things aren't going right which is a major problem with him.
My prediction is 18 points and 9 rebounds a game.

That seems about right, since it will be years until he averages at least 10 rebounds or more. 7'6 and can't get rebounds... thats sad

To me Yao was one of the most consistent player on the team last year. He will be a little better this year, but not much.

That's strange. I felt almost the opposite. There were nights when Yao was unstoppable, and clearly the best Rocket on the floor. There were also nights when Yao disappeared and was actually a liability on the court.

I tend to think it was mostly because of fatigue, and him still growing accostomed to the NBA schedule, a new coach, and a new system.

When Yao was on, he was great, when Yao was off he was less than average.

LOL!! Look out, somebody's cover has been blown!! It's none other than Jason Collier, still holding a grudge that Yao stepped in and made ya' ride tha pine!

Seriously, better go back to your Webster's Edition Dictionary and look up the real definition for bust, amed. Step away from your crack pipe, while yer' at it. Every team in the NBA would love to have you as Houston's GM. If Yao were to be a free agent today, I guarantee you every single team in the league would come a knockin' at his door.

I don't really think it matters what he averages. I think most Houston fans are looking for improvement in the number of playoff games won. If Yao averages the exact same as last season or less and Houston makes it to the WCF then the season was a success. If Yao averages 23 and 12 and Houston loses in the 1st round, I think most on this board would be disappointed.

yeah pretty much. But if he averages 23 and 12, we most likely would be a 2nd round team at least. BUt yeah i agree.

and people people don't quote amed, just put him on your ignore list like alot of people including me have.

Actually, Yao almost never disappears. It's just that he usually put up non-superstar numbers. It's rare to see Yao have less than a 14/7 night. The anomalies are actually his dominating games. Last year, Yao simply wasn't a superstar. He only averaged 17.7 ppg. So while as fans we may think a 15/8 performance by him to be "disappearing", it's not exactly that far below his average performance.

Yao was consistently inconsistent, jk, where did i read that? it was somewhere on this forum. Anyways, I think the only player that was really consistent for the entire season was Jimmy J everyone else you couldn't count on 100% to come through.
