Several of which aren’t centers and/or backups.
So out of 60 centers Starters and second team that would put him in the top 33%

I have observed him deferring to teammates when he sees there are no opposing players going for the rebound. Basically, the opposite of Westbrook, who was clearly stat-padding all the time and having others box out so he could collect the ball.

I think statmuse is a shitty website and I don't really trust it. I'm looking at the stats on nba.com

Instead of looking at 3 games how about the entire last year?

Rockets were 9th in defensive rebounding %, 1st in offensive rebounding %, and 1st in overall rebounding %.

Out of a terribly inept team overall, rebounding was their biggest strength, a team with Sengun as your center was quite literally #1 in the entire league in rebounding over an entire season, not 3 games.

So trying to paint rebounding as some kind of weakness now that he has answered every other question is quite the new slant for people who have run out of excuses.

Players of Sengun’s height typically need a team boxing out well and other players rebounding well, which we don’t have. He is okay for his height and will most likely improve as years go by. His rebounding is not really a point of concern or something that would make you want to get another center.

Okay, thanks, I did this: I set the min. minutes per game at 24 on average and looked at CONTESTED defensive rebounding percentage at the center position (to filter out the stat-padders).

    https://www.nba.com/stats/players/d...=C&Season=2022-23&dir=D&sort=DREB_CONTEST_PCT

    upload_2023-10-30_19-12-59.png

    He finishes 16th.

Before @larsv8 starts complaining about filters or whatever, let's look at whom he finishes ahead of, with the exact same filters:

    Evan Mobley
    Jaren Jackson Jr.
    Joel Embiid
    Jonas Valanciunas
    Domantas Sabonis
    JALEN DUREN

In any case, the statistics simply do not justify the assertions @larsv8 made, that he would be a terrible defensive rebounder.

By the way, this is an interesting way of looking at the stats, because neither Brook Lopez nor Myles Turner get a very high TOTAL in rebounds, but they both seem to be good at securing contested defensive rebounds.

I guess the flipside of this is that they probably aren't great at offensive rebounding?

How painful must it be for you that the best coach the Rockets have had in decades already entrusts the offense with Sengun after three games, and trusts his defense to close out games even against the Warriors where as the last coach wouldn’t play him more than 20 mins against them. Man you must be crying for Silas to return and boy are those tears delicious.

The chief Sengun nut job right now is Udoka, don’t get mad at us!

    You’re right.

Probably someone else fault we are last in the league at rebounding.

I posted the full season stats on contested defensive rebounding percentage. Do you have any comment on that?

Bro if it's Sengun's fault that the Rockets are last in the league at rebounding after 3 games this season, then it's Sengun's big success the Rockets were the best rebounding team last season in 82 games. But i haven't seen you praising him for that. Just pick your poison already and stick to it.

Yeah this is good, it's interesting to look at just the contested rebounds. Still, though, it's definitely not one of his strengths. Like at best he's middle of the pack here, or slightly below average - it's not something he excels at. Combined with the rest of our lineup being pretty poor rebounders at their position and it's not hard to see why the team struggles in that area.

He's a better rebounder than Sengun. Then again Drummond is a better rebounder than Jokic.

He could even be a much better player than Sengun. If we had that kind of reasoning to replace our players, sengun wouldn't be the first one to go.

My point was Duren did not make the numbers this season because he is a better rebounder, which was what the poster said. Contested rebounds is a better statistic but all in all, I think it is best to watch the player to assess for rebounds, not look at stats.

Others have said it. Rebounding will not be Sengun's strong suit anyway. But the arguments against him coming to that are hilarious.

Looks like @larsv8 has decided to take the L like...well, not like a man.

Hiding somewhere in a corner instead.

Edit: Jalen Duren only 7 rebounds tonight (and not much else). @larsv8 sad.
