Your link doesn't show rebounding percentage. https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask?q=2022/2023+rebounding+percentage+leaders Disclaimer: I am on my phone, so it's hard to sort the basketball reference link.
I actually love that in this very thread I've been both added to the "dumb list" AND accused of being part of the Sengun honour guard. Gotta love the ridiculousness of Clutchfans.
He’s definitely a good offensive rebounder But, he’s not good on the defensive boards. He’s not god awful, but is moderately below average for what you want from a starting center. Defensive boards are the ones that obviously matter for the teams defense. It’s a problem, but not a world ending one if we have good enough team defensive rebounding around him. Right now we don’t, Fred is 5’10, Jalen can get toppled by a strong breeze, Dillon has T-Rex arms, and Jabari is of course playing like a b****.
Are you insinuating that 30th in the league at DRB% is a bad thing? Overall RB% is even better Top 30 in any category is very good in the NBA
He was 12th in defensive rebounding percentage among centers last season. I mean, I don't have a PhD in math, but with 29 teams in the NBA, that doesn't sound like he was below average, but slightly above average in defensive rebounding. https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask?q=2022/2023+defensive+rebounding+percentage+leaders+at+the+center+position
I completely agree. He did a great job on rebounding and boxing out against the Spurs after that Magic game rebounding tragedy, i agree he should be more aggressive on defensive rebounds every game and not only after the games the Rockets were outrebounded by 100.
Yup, as expected. You have minutes filters on, and put total rebounding percentage and not defensive. Just making simple changes, like lowering the min restriction to 500 and changing to defensive. Near the bottom of all centers. https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask?q=...rcentage+leaders+with+500+minutes+restriction
It's really weird, he just doesn't even try to get defensive rebounds a lot. I don't know what the reason is, maybe he just assumes someone else is going to get it? Or maybe he's just gets tired? But I noticed it starting last year, and it was really glaring in the game last night, there are randomly (or at least it seems random to me) plays where he just doesn't even try to get the defensive rebound. He just stands there and watches other people go for it. It's not very good when it's a position specific stat. Obviously centers aren't the only players who can grab rebounds, but it's mainly their responsibility. If you are a starting center and you're 30th in rebounding in the league, that's well below average. I would bet 25 of the top 30 are starting centers, so 30th would be near the bottom. Think about if I told you a point guard was 30th in assists per game. That's not good. It's not the same as being top 30 in some stat where all positions are competing equally for it.
nba.com has different stats than statmuse. I don't know which one is more accurate but according to nba.com his dreb is 20.4% and he's 29th among players who have played 23 mpg or more.
I counted 20 starting centers ahead of him In a league of 30 teams, it puts him in the 33rd percentile for defensive rebounding amongst starting centers, so yeah it’s not a beneficial stat for him. I mean as you can see there’s only 13 listed centers on that list and Brook Lopez is nowhere close to being 13th in the league in defensive rebounding percentage. Statmuse is AI generated and that list is incomplete https://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2023_advanced.html here’s what your looking for
Okay, I am at a laptop now. Statmuse put a minimum of 2,000 minutes. That's about 24 minutes per game. I think it's a reasonable assumption that starting centers would play around at least that number of minutes. There must be the idea behind that that they want to compare apples to apples. Of course, if you arbitrarily keep reducing the minimum minutes, Boban might be ahead of Sengun at some point.
You click DRB% and that’s sorts + filters out players who didn’t play enough minutes/games He’s 29th in the league in DRB%, 20th amongst starting centers 2k minutes being 24 mpg is only if they played every game, guys like Davis, Capela, Looney who had some injuries etc should obviously count as starting Cs to compare Sengun with
