Same guy that did nothing in Arizona before. The same guy who couldn’t put his foot down to stop the cheating. The same guy who didn’t go to Cole. Hinch is not a good manager. Astros are not going back.
Linares and Espada both have an advantage over a lot of other candidates. They are both bilingual, both are from cultures outside the United States and that really matters to the Astros. Hispanic coaching, player development, etc. makes a difference and is something that is rightfully valued. I will say that Espada bridges the gap extremely well in that regard. If he isn't the Astros manager - he will likely be a manager elsewhere.
This makes sense. I have no doubt that Espada will move on if he doesn't get the job. And he should after getting passed over here twice and looking at multiple seasons before there is another chance (and only likely chance then is a collapse which would make him look bad also). If he wants to manage (and by all accounts he does) he simply can't stay if he does not get this job. I think Dusty's age and series of 1 year deals is why he is still here now. Also, this team did not lose any of the 12-15 most valuable players, is a contender as is, and has a history of winning and established culture. To me the fewer/smaller the changes, the better. I like Espada.
I like letting Maldy call the pitching game from the bench. Does he gain that much from being behind the plate that he loses being on the bench?
Sounds from others that they want a Hispanic that fits the Astros hispanic culture and speaks spanish though. It probably won't matter what an analytic hitting and coaching guru Ecker is if that's true.
The descriptions of what they do before the game is eerily similar. If their personalities don't clash. it should make for a good team.
Jesus Christ please tell me we are not going to hire some schmoe just because he's bilingual. We don't have time to experiment with the manager position. We have 2 years left with JV and Tucker, and about a half dozen left with this core (I'm expecting Bregman and Altuve to get extended), we need to make the most of it. I'm looking for a similar hire to Baker, just without the moron aspect.
how well did that work out all year... playoffs? so blame our C, the pitching coach, bench coach or Mgr for the pitching kerfuffles this season (*injuries not included) I like Maldonado and Baker as far away from this team as possible, I wanna see these dudes gel without any "glue" or common ground....
All of these guys are qualified. Crane just has to make a choice. I sure wish Luhnow was making the choice. Brown will rebuild the farm system. I hope he's allowed to make the choices in FA. No more Bags playing GM.
You should wear that ring proudly. Too bad Dusty didn't get that chance to win another this yr. Hard headed old man.
You couldn't be more wrong, but you're too arrogant to know it. CONTENT OF CHARACTER. It works for everyone. Or it works against everyone.
