I reformatted my computer, and after doing so am unable to change my color settings to 256 bit. The only choices I have in my display settings are 16 and 32 bit. Any ideas on how I can get the 256 bit option back? Thanks in advance.

What video card do you have? I believe what your looking for is actually 256 color which translates to 8-bit, in which case you would be better off setting the color depth at 32-bit.

256? thats terrible! why would you want to go all the way back? If your trying to run a certain program in 256 colors you can change it in compatibility mode by right clicking the shortcut and then going into compat. tab and then checking off "Run in 256 colors"

if that doesn't work then you can remove your drivers I guess and use the default windows ones

Maybe I'm confused. I thought before I had had three options, with one being better than the 32 bit. I'm probably just crazy. My colors look off to me though...

I have a nVIDIA GeForce2 Go video card.

32 bit is the highest for your vid card, might want to change the drivers, or play with the settings.

32 bit is great, install your drivers and you'll have great color and everything should look normal

edit: it seems everyone posts at the same time in this thread :p
