Well, I did not watch the game last night. I am less effected by the emotional toll, and here is an attempt to take some realistic positivity from last night. - Our starting five had a net rating of 8.1 with 68.1% ts%. Compared to last year's -9.3 last year this is a huge improvement. There is real improvement there, if they can keep it up. And that is on a night Green and Jabari supposedly played below average. - Sengun had a plus/minus -2 on 28 minutes. We were only down 2 in a stretch of 28 minutes with our rotation players. Last year the starting five was blown out constantly. And the second unit was logging some plus minutes. - The starting 5 played 14 minutes, the unit with next most minutes was the garbage time unit at 5 minutes. Compared to Orlando's 2 5 man line ups playing 32 minutes. So we used a lot of different line ups for 2 minutes each. As the season progresses this should stabilize and have a positive impact. - Tari is missing. With this roster, with a lack of ball handlers and shooters, this team will not improve on half court offense a lot. Missing him means we are missing defense, steals, some transition points, some offensive rebounds. It is direct scoring for this team. And here comes the realistic part: - We really wasted the last two years. It is best to accept that, think about Sengun, Green and Bari as rookies and watch their improvement from this point on. They did not improve on areas rookies improve, as they should have. - The rebuild's first two years is a complete failure in terms of development but we still have the assets. The expected top talent (Green and Bari) have not panned out so far. But we have very good mid-level talent, secondary pieces. We'll have to wait and see where Bari and Green at the end of this year, if they show enough progress, great, otherwise we'll have to move on, I guess.
I think that’s fair to look at our prospects basically as rookies. But the problem is that at least for our 3rd years guys, their rookie scale contracts are winding down. So if we don’t see a significant jump soon, we may be better off trading them. Unfortunately, you can’t lose 2 yrs of development and expect that those “assets” are going to command a decent return. And you can’t extend prospects who haven’t shown much development. I want to be positive and we’re only one game into a long season, but it’s clear we are really behind the eight ball.
CryBaby's: We're 0-1, the sky is falling!! The sky is falling!! Guess what,,,,, 1/2 the league is going to be 0-1 after their first game! Geez Luise!! But we lost by 30pts.... GREAT!! I'm glad we got that turd game out of our way straight out of the gate!! Now they know where they're truly stand and know first hand how it looks/feels when you don't leave it ALL on the floor! They played passive all night long!! I was looking for Brooks to throw a right hook at someone from the Magic... truly disappointed that he didn't!! I'M DOUBLING DOWN!! The Rockets are going to be closer to 40w than 20w by the end of the year!! THERE I SAID IT!! Go Rockets!!! ....... ....... .......
For me this part was so important. I saw the boxscore before I watched the game so there was no drama. It was going to be a win or a loss, I just wanted to see what has changed. That definitely helped me just see the loss as a routine loss within a (hopefully) successful season. I think when you've waited so long to watch a game you feel like you're owed something lol The ups and downs of the game will make you feel emotional and by the time someone is posting their opinion here they're all over the place. Great thread and observations.
Exactly. It will have consequences. We'll have to make less educated guesses when offering contracts, or get less trade value. But it is what it is. It is the best for us and the organization to accept it, and plan forward looking at it this way. I have serious doubts that the organization can do it with stone behind the wheel though.
We didn't just lose by 30. We lost by 30 to a turd team that wasn't even playing that well. We played so reality bendingly bad that Magic fans were thinking they might be playoff contenders this year. Worst of all, most of our players played like they just couldn't give a crap.
Here is some positivity: At least we didn’t resign James Harden this offseason like Stone and Tilman wanted to. At least we are not mired in that mess. Down right scary. Can’t say I’m not a little gleeful about the Harden situation in Philly.
Harden amazing player, one of the best to do it offensively but he's literally quit on multiple teams.
Silas was an awful head coach. Coaching wise, the Rockets have wasted a few years. It is like starting over. If they are still this bad by All Star break, I would push the panic button. I think they will steadily improve. I am still sold on Smith. He will come around. The rookies have ridiculous potential.
I stand by my statement, pin it for the end of the year.... 40w>20w Go Rockets!!! ....... ....... .......
Sarcasm AND Hyperbole are hard to decipher for some people!.... I stand by what I said.....40w>20w Go Rockets!!! ....... ....... .......
