Well judging by how Tom Emmer's run yesterday went, I'm guessing that "moderates" simply can't get enough votes. A "moderate" can only get elected if they're willing to negotiate with Democrats which apparently is still off the table.

lol. you have to be a total moron to actually believe this.

yesterdays candidate for speaker had to withdraw because he wasnt deemed MAGA enough.

liz cheney lost her seat because she rightfully said that the 2020 election wasnt stolen and rightfully said that trump was responsible for january 6th.

being a republican today means being totally subservient to trump and his lies. you go against him in any way and you are a RINO.

    YOURE IN A CULT...SEEK HELP.

At what point do a few of the Republicans from purple districts start to force a power play?

Being speaker is a huge f**king deal, nominate me or we vote present and give the SOH back to the democrats. They don't even have to vote for a democrat, if a few merely abstain it will be enough. I think once the great wall of Trump falls to a few people it will open like a floodgate to people too scared to go against the cult.

No - the fact that it has taken this long, and this many people have emerged and been shot down shows that the Republican party right now is pure chaos and that isn't good for Republicans or the United States. The Republican Party has turned into a reality show.

Looks like the R's took the strategy here of pulling someone out of the mix that nobody has ever heard of so there was no INITIAL baggage from the extremists and the less extreme MAGA caucuses.

And it looks like that strategy worked to get a speaker elected.

Now the fun part is actually seeing a virtual nobody with no background of fundraising and with the same voting record as the most MAGA R's in the House... run the House of Representatives... oh yeah in the middle of a crisis in the Middle East, and the government set to shut down in a matter of days. What could go wrong?

I guess it's better than having no speaker so things can at least open back up in the House, but one of two things are about to happen:

-Either Mike Johnson has lied about his allegiance to Trump, and doesn't really believe the election was stolen in 2020, and is actually a respectable moderate conservative who will work with the Senate, and White House to keep the government open

Which will lead to the MAGA extremists throwing him out, and getting his life threatened daily... or

-He'll be an extremist MAGA speaker like his record would describe him as which would mean that we now have a Speaker of the House who is a surrogate for Trump put in power to destroy the United States government so a strongman in Trump can win in 2024 to take power forever.

good lord, what a trash group of 'leaders'. The 'shut up' nut looks like the old lady screaming at kids from the porch of her dilapidated house in a horror movie or a Tim Burton animated film.

"We're not doing any policy tonight"...they haven't done any 'policy' in a decade+

Mike Johnson sounds like a prank name...is Mike Hunt out of the running?

When there's no one else to trust, lead with Mike Johnson.

Who knew answering media questions equaled doing policy.
