Watching Richard Jefferson play in the Olympics, makes me feel a little better (slightly) about trading him for Griffin way back when. As bad as he is playing now, he probably would be doing close to the same in the Rockets "iso, stand around and wait to take a three point shot" offenses. Thoughts?
He's good, but he's not 78 million good. His talent is not greater than Eddie Griffin's, it's just that we took a risk with Eddie and we lost. Eddie would've been much better than Jefferson had he started his career with Jason Kidd.
I'd rather have him over Eddie in the sense that Jefferson's actually playing in the NBA still. On the other hand, I sure as hell don't wanna touch that bloated contract. They shoulda payed K-Mart and let Jefferson slide, but that's just me.
Being from NYC, I watch quite a few of Nets games. I have to say that I don't think much of KMart's game. He is undersized to be PF and oversized to be SF. He has never averaged double digits in rebounds, his scoring skills are atrocious outside of the 2 or 3 vicious dunks he puts up every night. He doesn't deserve to be a max player. He reminds me very much of Amare Stoudemire's game, though I have to admit, KMart's offensive skills have progressed slightly every year adding in the occasional jumper and hook shot, while Amare did the same things this year that he did last year.
This guy has alot of nerve running his mouth every game against other olympic players. I watched him the first game the US lost and he was yapping the whole time. He gives US a bad name as well as the NBA. Hey RJ consider yourself lucky that the NBA is the playground basketball otherwise you'd be in the CBA back in the day. OH how about you and every other player in the NBA spending some of that 78 million on a ####ing jump shot. These int'l players make your skills look amateurish. Sign up TURBO Les he can dunk too. AS for the defense, if he didn't play it he'd only be noticed when he dunked because that's all he can do. As far as I'm concerned I wouldn't want RJ or EG. Down with the primadonnas.
I'm really glad everything worked out the way we wanted. Who knows, if we drafted RJ instead of EG we probably would have won more games. Then whos to say if we would have landed Yao Ming or not? I would much rather have a busted Eddie AND Yao Ming than a good Jefferson but no big fella.
RJ is in no way a primadonna. He has never acted that way in NJ/NY. He has always worked hard and improved his game leaps and bounds every year. Calling him a primadonna is doing him a disservice.
Hey BALLer watch him run his mouth next time the US loses.Watch him not be worth 78 million this year.He was acting like he was Gods gift to the Nets before he ever played one game.Google his quotes from before the season ever started his rookie year. Remember the rockets are gonna PAY.Whatever, atleast we're not paying 78 million for your second tier olympic team whining butt. HEY RJ--TRACY MCGRADY you're not. I bet you anything this guy could'nt even co-exist with Tracy MCGRADY. He'd probably think TMAC would take all his shots--even though he has no shot.RJ has heart but that's it. Not worth 78 million primadonna or not.
It's doubtful that we would have selected RJ if it were not New Jersey calling the shots on that pick. I think we would have been far more likely to have traded up with another team and grabbed Troy Murphy or possibly traded down for someone else but I just don't think we would have taken RJ if we had any intention of keeping him.
Are you serious? Do you even watch how RJ plays with the Nets? I have watched him with the Nets for 3 seaons now, he never acts up or calls out his teammates, is always respectful and shows enthusiasm and hates losing. As for him saying the Rockets are gonna pay, every athlete drafted and traded has been using this us against them, something to prove, chip on his shoulder mentality to motivate them. If he implied he was God's gift to the Nets, he never acted that way on the court nor off it and the media in the Metropolitan area always keeps track of potential problems in the locker room to fill their back pages.
I know that we had scouted RJ heavily, and all the signs pointed to him leading up to the draft. But I have a feeling that Rudy would draft the big white guy given the chance.
This is going to hurt. If we had kept our picks, IIRC, we could have had Jefferson, Randolph and Tony Parker all. Yes, it would have taken a lot of prescience. Ouch...
