Those were either career or last years numbers from BBR.

    Simple math.

    21% result in an assist.
    18.9% result in a turnover.

39.9% That's 2/5 leaving 3/5 where he either shoots or gets FT's. (understand that this is a fraction of his actual usage, not raw possessions).

    No, that is wrong.

It would assume that when a player has the ball, the only possible outcomes are a shot, an assist or a turnover.

However, the outcome can also be a simple pass that doesn't lead to an assist.

Also, consider that "assist percentage" and "turnover percentage" as part of advanced stats are actually just estimates.

Also, you are misinterpreting what assist percentage means.

    What it means is:

    upload_2023-10-24_1-35-16.png

So it does not mean that 21 % of his possessions result in an assist.

It refers to an estimate of what percentage of other people's field goals were assisted by the player.

    Not the same thing.

This doesn't add up with the turnover percentage, and, as you thought with shots in your "simple math" to 100 %.

That's why I explained its a fraction of his usage rate which does not take "simple passes" or "hockey assists" into account.
In Usage, the results of a play are shot / FT's, assist & turnover - otherwise you didn't "Use" the possession.

No, you are simply wrong. It doesn't matter what you explained. You misunderstood the stats.

Just look at the definition of assist percentage.

To explain it to you further why your "simple math" can definitely not be correct:

Jokic had an assist percentage of 46.6 % last season (wow). He had a turnover percentage of 17 %. According to your "simple math", that would mean he would only shoot 3.4 out of 10 times (as opposed to Alpi supposedly shooting 3 out of 5 times, in your "simple math").

    You notice something?

Alpi did not attempt more FG than Jokic. Neither in absolute terms, nor relative to his usage.

You are using career numbers for a third year player (only played two years), especially when all his numbers are up from year 1 to year 2? All of our young players look like scrubs if you want to do that. You didn’t want to use +1.4 bpm because that’s actually great for a second year player so you used +0.4 for his career instead? That’s borderline deceitful.

I was unsure until now but this confirms that he will be better than Kareem.

Robert Horry: "If the Rockets want to win 'Alperoon' has to be the key, use him like a Jokic. And Jabari has to be a leader ."

The simple math of it is that shot attempts + FT + assists + turnovers puts you pretty damn close to usage rate for just about any player in the league - Yes, I'm certain you can find an outlier but the basic principal stands.

Just take his numbers from last season

    3.9 assists
    2.6 turnovers
    3.8 FT
    10.7 FGA

The numbers aren't dead on but they are in the close vicinity.
