I'm just glad he's allowed to play through his mistakes. Silas would instantly pull him and I guarantee that did him no favors.
Did my soul some good when he hit that no look pass. Step in the right direction tonight for sure. He's back around his typical scoring numbers for last year, hopefully now he can build some confidence to take that next step to a consistent 20/10.
I liked that he is setting really good screens for fvv, who can use them effectively. He is also very much improved on defense. Got 4 blocks but for me the real highlight is not getting cooked by guards. He scored 16 pts but still doesn't have that magic post foot-work, fakes, finesse combination that makes you fall in love with his game. I want that alpi back!
You’re the biggest idiot on this forum. Accountability should start with you before you try and hold anyone else accountable
He’s forcing it right now, every time he has a favorable matchup he’s trying to score no matter if 3 help defenders come. Just because you have a mismatch doesn’t mean you have to deviate from the way you normally play to go out of your way to score, draw a crowd and kick it out (quickly). He did better at that today but still forced up some bad shots. Between missing good shots that he normally make to forcing up bad shots out of frustration it’s a vicious cycle right now. He’s definitely in his own head, almost like he’s trying to prove to the new staff what he can do, because he wasn’t taking some of these forced shots last year. Once he realizes Ime believes in him (as long as he keeps playing defense) I think he will settle down.
It’s almost like the dog who chases the car and doesn’t know what to do with it when he finally catches it. Ime is giving Sengun the keys, if you think our prayers are being answered imagine how Sengun feels, it’s like he doesn’t want to disappoint Ime so he wants to go out of his way to dominate. That’s messing him up, just play your game.
Add to that I'm noticing that some players are defending him differently this year. They are playing position defense and not biting as much on the pump fakes. He got Kevin Love with a good one tonight, but noticed Bam, Bryant, and what ever the 3rd string guys name is, were being more disciplined defensively. But you're right, where he was slower and more methodical with his footwork and pump fakes, he's rushing both and it looks almost awkward at times.
It didn't take long for Sengun to quiet that lunatic. Can't remember the trolls name but the one who was very active in this thread after two preseason games. (LULZ) It's pretty annoying watching him get fouled down low and not get the whistle, constantly.
There was one play where he had Tyler Herro on him alone around or in the paint and he decided to pass the ball. That one pissed me off. It's like he takes it up in traffic on 3 people, but when he's single-covered by a midget, he passes instead of backing it in or turning around and shooting. Sengun's best defense against a capable center is just hopefully to swat the ball away from behind/weak side from what I've seen in the pre-season. The other issue with him getting fouls called his way is, in many cases, he barely gets off the ground on a jumpshot or putback attempt before he's swarmed or has his shot blocked (even if it's a foul). Either that or he just tosses it up off-balance and hopes for a call. I don't know if that's going to fly. He needs to be able to take it up strong and show there was a foul. This game was an improvement over the previous, but it was more step forward/step back in terms of progress throughout the game. But that was pretty much true of the entire team when they lost whatever they had in the first half when they came out terrible in the 3rd quarter. One negative aspect is his complaining after every call, but a positive aspect was that he didn't sulk for long and he was at least trying on defense which turned into some nice blocks. He also did grant us that no-look pass that was sick.
I dunno what happened to his touch around the rim but I haven't seen him miss this many bunnies since he was drafted. Is all this three point practice messing up his greatest asset? Crazy how many layups he is missing this preseason. He probably missed more gimmies in the last three games than he did all season. Hopefully he gets that out of system.
