Victor and JRE are 2 useless scrubs, and none of these contracts attached to worthless players will be relevant in some mythical trade for a mythical star at least this dumbass KPJ is finally off the roster…Stone treated that idiot like an adopted son
I think scrubs is pretty harsh, but neither will make our rotation. There is no reason why they won't be able to be part of a trade for something useful if it materializes. Naturally they won't draw anything individually, but salary filler can be helpful. Just depends on where we are at the deadline and who is on the trading block.
Oladipo got playoff minutes in the finals and ECF last year for the Heat. He is not that bad as a rotational player.
The Heat are about the only team or among 2-3 that maximizes undrafted players and players that have otherwise little value. The Heat are not the norm, only the exception. The Spurs used to be it.
He messed up his knee pretty badly. He’s had three surgeries in the last four years. I wouldn’t be surprised if he never plays again.
we've heard this same contract filler bs for years. nothing happens. they all end up attaching assets like this latest trade to dump players. folks are used to the rockets using picks to dump scrubs year after year so it seems like the correct way to operate. it isn't yes its 2 scrubs. one who probably will be lucky to ever play again and another guy who will be out of the leage soon
Curled up in a fetal position in the corner sucking his thumb: "Find your happy place......find your happy place..."
he played in the 1st round vs the bucs in game 2 and game 3. Game 3 was where he tore his patella tendon in his knee. he was never in the ecf or finals for the heat
Great trade. Gets rid of Porter. Brings in possibly some depth in JRE and an expiring that allows for some flexibility down the line. I find it funny some people were whining about trading a couple of 2nd rounders.
KPJ is such a dumbass. Catapulted himself out of the league. Any reaction from his uncle on Twitter yet?
That's why he got the chance to make $63M after being an NBA team's "starting point guard", which he promptly threw away. No one else was giving him that chance.
true I recall him playing in big minutes for them but against the best team Miami would have faced in the Playoffs. If he had gotten PT against Milwaukee, he would have gotten playing time against the Nuggets or the Celtics, etc.
I wonder if Oladipo's last contract was allowed to be insured at signing. I would have expected Miami to try and cover him if it was allowed, based on his history of severe injuries but this would have also been a reason for why the insurance carrier might have rejected him (they may disqualify up to 14 players per year, but can't change their mind and disqualify someone who they had previously covered on the same contract). Quick primer on NBA insurance; it generally covers long-term inability to play due to injury or sickness (non-mental health), and kicks in after 41 consecutive missed games. Insurance will cover 80% of the players game check starting on the 42nd game, until he is cleared to play again, for a maximum of 6 years and $28,187,500 / $275,000 per game. Assuming that Oladipo is completely done and can't get back on the court, he's on the books for $9.45M against the cap, but will actually only be paid $5.67M for the year out of the owner's pocket. This should make him a slightly more attractive expiring contract than other kinds of salary ballast at the deadline, and even if the Rockets are unable to flip him, this trade has saved Fertitta a significant amount of money versus just cutting KPJ outright. The overall finances of the trade are: KPJ: $15.86M + $1M ($16.86M) versus: JRE: ($1.9M) + VO ($5.67M) = $7.57M So even with no flipping of Oladipo, Rafael Stone cashed in two second rounders for a free look at JRE and saving Fertitta about $9M+ in actual expenses. I don't love it from the perspective of managing future assets, but this is the kind of thing that Daryl Morey had to do routinely to satisfy Leslie Alexander's requirement to stay below the luxury tax, so I can't really hate on Stone for doing the same.
At least the Rockets weren't so desperate to dump Porter's contract that they gave up the Nets' 2024 1st rounder.
Oh no. We had to give up our cherished 2nd rd picks.. What will CFs scouting department do with themselves.
