I'm sure a bunch of you have opinions on which is better.

5th Anniversary is in October and we want to go relax on the beach. We don't dive although I'd like to try but it's not a necessity. Don't golf. Want a nice place with good rooms, super nice pool area, and a swim up bar (must have). I'd like to take one day and explore the surrounding area (ruins, markets, whatever) Both mid 30's so the bar/party scene would be ok but is not required. Neither of us have our passports so this may limit us to Mexico I'm not sure.

I'm looking to spend less than 2 large so the Caribbean is probably out of the question.

Also is all inclusive worth the price?

    Cozumel. Beautiful, and fairly cheap.

Jamaica-Too expensive and too much ganja
Cancun-Unless you're under 25 and single, stay away at all costs!

I cast my vote for Cozumel, since it's small, and you could see most of the major sights in one day. Not to mention the diving is incredible, the hotels are nice, and they do have a lot of touristy party places.

    None of the above.

    Belize!

Dirct cheap and not completely ruined by tourists yet.

Of your list, I'd go with Cozumel. Not as crowded and young as Cancun, but you can take a ferry ride over if you want to check it out.

Cozumel is the best out of those three.

But why not enjoy a couple of places? You could easily afford to go on a cruise for 2 grand. If you live in Houston, there are some decent cruises going out of Galveston that are reasonably priced. I've been on 5 cruises and it really is an awesome deal for the amount of money you spend.

But anyways, back on topic....Cozumel has always been my favorite stop of these, and I've been to all three multiple times. Make sure you check out Carlos and Charlies while you are there, it is a must.

For $2k, you could put together a pretty good five-day trip to Cozumel through one of those travel package dealy things.

For $2,000 you can get 7 days all-inclusive. That's how much my last trip to Cancun was during a peak month.

We did a 7 day cruise with stops in Progresso, Cozumel, and Belize earlier this year for about $1,600 and had a blast. Great food, but the booze aren't included.

I'd also reccommend Belize. Very cheap and the water is gorgeous. The only drawback is the lack of sandy beaches. But diving, snorkeling, mayan sites, etc. are readily available.

On your list, I'd go with Cozumel.

I've done some research online and it is so hard to decide. I thought I found a place on expedia but then I went to travelocity and read the reviews of the place and they were horrible. Travelocity gave the place 5 stars but the reviews said stay away and timeshare hard sell.

Is the all inclusive worth the price? Seems to add about 5-6 hundred to the cost. I'm going to look into belize but do I need a passport? If so how long does it take to get one?

    No passport needed for Belize.

All inclusive is great if you like to eat and drink. We're talking all you can eat steaks one night, lobster, crab, etc.

All you can drink margaritas and beer in the pool bar. It's great.

If you're the type of person that only eat 3 meals a day and barely finish your plate or only haslike 2 beers then it's not worth it.

Basically if you're a tyical Houstonian then all inclusive is awesome.

Where did you stay? Were the beaches similar to Cancun's?

I've been to all three places (Cancun, Cozumel, and Jamaica). Cancun is definately the place to go if you want to party, but I don't know if I would go there for anything other than that. Cozumel is awesome. Great place. It was a stop on our cruise so we only stayed in Cozumel for half a day, but I enjoyed the stay. We also went to Montego Bay, Jamaica on our cruise. I absolutely hated it. The country is poor so the residents hound the tourists as soon as they climb off the ship. Only thing I enjoyed about Jamaica was Margaritaville.

I might want to add in the fact I am only 21 so my preferences may be slightly different than yours. But for what you are wanting I think Cozumel is the best match for you out of these 3 choices.

OK so I've been working expedia, travelocity and hotwire. I was looking at cozumel and decided after reading reviews etc that the Melia Cozumel - All Inclusive Resort looked good. Leaving Thrusday and returning Monday. Travelocity and expedia had this for 760 per person leaving houston about noon and arriving at 230. Then returning Monday afternoon. hotwire has this for 609 per person but they won't show you the flight times until you book a non refundable trip. All they will say is the flight is either direct or 1 stop and not a redeye.

What to do? If I go with hotwire then I might get screwed on the flight and have less time there but I'll save $300 or I can pick what time I want to fly and pay the extra 300.

    Thoughts?
