Bryant is 6'10'', for context, and defended that about as well as a human being could. No way to calculate how Gumbyama's long alien arms would just dunk it over you FROM OUTSIDE THE RESTRICTED AREA. Like, that's just bonkers.
If he stays healthy, the NBA is his. Soon, too. He is the player you create to dominate 2K. His only weakness right now is rebounding. But that might become a strength once he gets stronger. He actually seems a little stronger now than I first saw him play against Scoot's team. I'm not familiar with the San Antonio's roster, but if they're half decent, they should compete for the playin. Depends on his health, of course. Scoot looks nice, but Wembanyama will be RoY and at least the Third-Team All-NBA center behind Jokic and Embiid. Also, I've noticed beef brewing amongst LeBron fans and Wembanyama fans. That'll be interesting to see within the NBA media and fandom.
A lot of it has to do with spacing and the Spurs' gameplan, imo. On a lot of these plays, Wemby is usually at the perimeter when a teammate begins their penetration to the basket. I say spacing because Wemby being outside the paint allows for more room for his teammate to drive and gameplan because by Wemby not crashing to the board and banging with people to fight for a potential rebound, it preserves his health. As you said though, if/when he gets stronger, I'm sure he'll be scrapping in there for rebounds, but I think what the Spurs are doing for now, is fine.
Well this is where we disagree. I believe in seeing someone walk before acting like he can fly. I have no issue giving props to Wemby but he should prove it with his game first. How is Wemby up there with Giannis and Curry he doesn't even have a ring? How about Wemby has one mvp first before you say he is on par with 2 of the best players ever?
He's not gonna stay healthy lol. Dude has had foot problems before he even experienced NBA grind. Steph Curry is the only dude I know who had health issues prior to NBA and became healthy AF once he came to the NBA. It's the same thing with Zion he wasn't gonna have a long and healthy career from Day 1.
It would be a damn shame if we don't get to see him have a long and healthy career. Bill Walton might be the only other MVP level player that lost so much to injury. Someone might say Yao, but he wasn't at Walton's level. Oden wouldn't have ever reached that level either. Zion is exciting, but his overall impact when healthy is not at the level Wembanyama can reach offensively and defensively.
San Antonio like the Thunder has tons of 6'5 and 6'9 strong dudes......the Rockets used to have line backers like that.
This is a strange take. Judging a player based on potential is nothing new. LeBron, before his first NBA game, was nicknamed "King," "Chosen One," etc. Were there skeptics like yourself back in 2003, too? Of course. But this whole "hAsN't pLaYeD a GaMe YeT" take is just a wet blanket. It's much more fun to talk about someone potentially being the best player in the history of the NBA than it is to hope that the player is a bust and will amount to nothing. But that's just me. Andrew Wiggins was "Maple Jordan." Zion was a generational talent. AD was a generational talent. Curry wasn't nicknamed anything since size was an issue before coming into the league and durability was an issue his first few years. Giannis was incredibly raw and he still doesn't have a reliable jumper. Point is, anointing someone as a multigenerational talent, an all-NBA mainstay, a future bust or anything in between, is nothing new. So it's a bit strange that you're so up in arms over this. Also, I think that poster was saying Wemby is on Giannis' and Curry's level of watchability - not an actual measurable metric like rings or accolades. Anyway, I personally think he'll be the best player in the NBA too, in about 5 years. In just one game, he's shown that he can be a complete offensive and defensive player. Offensively, he needs to work on 3pt shooting, but everything inside the arc seemed to be money. And his form looks so fluid. Dude looks like he can take his man off the dribble, can be a catch-and-shoot guy, and can shoot over people he can't back down physically. On defense, it'll be very hard to challenge him as he has the length of Gobert but he seems to also have solid defensive IQ. Had a block on Thomas Bryant that was a result of him guarding 2 players in the paint. Once he actually learns how to play defense and gets used to NBA physicality, he's going to be the in DPoY conversation every single year. Dude is 19 but comes into the league with potentially Durant's offense, Garnett/Gobert/Giannis' defense, the height of Yao, one of the longest wingspans in NBA history, etc. Durant and Giannis will be in the HoF one day, Garnett and Yao are already there. Put all those characteristics into the same body, and it's very hard to argue that if it all pans out, that Victor won't be a multigenerational talent.
He is about ×100 times more likely to torn both his acls than becoming a multigenerational talent. If 50 things work together AND his 3 inches thick ankles, 5 inches thick legs manage to carry 200 pounds forever then he will retire as the greatest player ever logic oozes severe rtardation. You can technically judge a player based on his potential but giving up on reality for a dream is dumb. This is divorcing your wife and moving to California just to bang Jennifer Lopez. We should have evolved to be in peace with what we have what is in front of us but we are miserable as species. Wemby fans are hopeless romantics. There is a reason why things are the way they are. There is a reason why centers, pf's are 6'10-7'1. Sure 100 years from now with continuation of human evolution, technological advancements we will see 7'4 centers more frequently maybe even it will be their league. Torn acl will be repaired with some magical liquid taken from anus in 3 weeks. Knee transplant will be a thing so they will have knees made of adamantium but not now. You guys are travelling in time and are unaware of it. I agree that he is an anomaly but he is like a human sized bee kind of an anomaly. In theory it should clear all the flowers around the city be a king in the hood and bang the queen bee but a human sized bee would collapse after one shift. Wemby will peak very early and gradually get worse.
Rockets have sucked weiner for years. Spurs suck one time and they get rewarded Wemby...not fair man.
It's ok to judge a player based on potential but I've never heard anybody say somebody is multi generational before he even played a game or put him alongside multi MVPs like Giannis and Steph before he even done anything. People called Lebron the chosen one before he played but nobody said he was already on par with Kobe and Tim Duncan before he played a single game. Can you name me one instance of this happening before? A kid hasn't even play his first official game he is already ranked among multi MVPs? Y'all gotta be tripping.
It's just 3 yrs bro. Don't be such a drama queen. Also Spurs have had 4 lotto picks since 2020 but ok continue to live in delulu land.
