I wish there was some way to keep Maldonado OFF THE FIELD. Everything discussed concerning his skills can be retained without actually PLAYING.
You could play the same game with Twins fans and Correa. From April 1, 2023 and then October 8, 2023.
2 vs 8 We still have 2 more years on the deal. If we won though it's a 10. Brantley though was a 0 & now a 10
This I still think he's overpaid, but if he manages .800 OPS the remaining contract and 130 GP/season, he's a good signing. He needs to finish these playoffs strong too.
8 10 By July 31 he had 33 RBIs in his last 42 games since June 9, and actually you'll see this very statistical post I made if you dig up the thread on the series we played at the end of July.
So let me get this straight. Light hitting middling RBI machine Brantley who seemingly can't play everyday is at a 10 and the guy with 41 RBIs in his last 33 games is at an 8? Jesus.
Now Correa was an abject disaster the entire season. He ended up with 65 RBIs hitting in the very heart of the lineup. Abreu finished with 90 RBIs hitting 5th and 6th in the lineup for the vast majority of the year. And we all know if you take away the first 2 months you see an RBI machine (75 RBIs in his last 84 games, Yordan territory). You can't say that about Correa. He was just bad. These are 2 different situations entirely.
This is a great point. A lot of the blame, as usual, lies at Dusty's feet. He took way too long to take the pressure off Abreu as he was obviously pressing. But Dusty is a moron as we all know.
That’s not the way Twins fans or talking head see it. For most of the year there was a Lot of criticisms about Correa and that his contract was a waste. In the payoffs all that changed and there was universal praise of him and even now in season post mortems Many Twins fans are taking about how important Correa is to the team.
Abreu has to maintain a high level of performance for another two seasons to be worth his contract and at his age and history he is not a good bet. Brantley is cheaper and can be re-evaluated this winter before another dollar is spent on him.
