Maybe PH is better than nothing, but Diaz sucks at PH and DH. The better play -- besides the obvious -- is removing Maldy before the PH and letting Diaz play defense before the AB. Diaz has always hit better when he plays defense, even in the minors.
This But the bigger one to me is when he made the comments about Rodriguez Chas had better numbers in all areas, but even if he didn’t you don’t spout off about how much better another teams player is than your own! That’s awful
Whatever you say .. Dusty has this team rolling at the right time Or would you rather be the 100 win Orioles, Dodgers, and the Braves right now? Dusty knows what he is doing
No way in hell I'm gonna bad mouth Dusty for getting us to the ACLS. He obviously did better than most managers in the league in getting his team to this spot. Go Stros!
Abreu will play 1st for the Astros next year. While he isn’t the most mobile player there - he has a quick glove, gives a nice target and catches most of what he is supposed to. I think the concern about Alvarez is largely accurate. He will likely still play 30-40 games in left field, but he is going to be DHing a lot. Altuve’s defense isn’t good anymore because of his range but he positions himself well and makes the plays in front of him. I would like to see Altuve DH 30-40 times. We will be better defensively behind the plate. First and second will hopefully be near average with the other side of the infield being very good and the outfield defense being above average when Alvarez sits.
Or just make Maldy the manager next year and he still gets to control pitch com from the dugout. Everybody happy.
If Maldi was manager, no one under 30 would start. He is just a Dusty era idiot. No to Dusty and no to Maldonado. It is time to move on.
For as big as he is - and he's not young - Abreu handles 1B well. Several of Pena's more recent game-saving plays (and, seriously, there've been enough I'm starting to think he *may* be the best defensive SS in team history - with apologies to @MadMax and his unrequited love of Adam Everett) have ended with Abreu adeptly handling rockets and bounces. He's better than I thought, defenively.
Serious question... why does Abreu get such a bad reputation defensively? Granted, he isn't Keith Hernandez with the glove, but I think he does an acceptable level of defense. Scoops, good arm, I don't get it.
