So Devin Vassell just signed a 5 year/$146M with the Spurs. Might be a taste of what we'll end up paying Jalen if he shows out.

Considering Jalen put up better numbers in year 2 than Vassell did in year 3 in very similar situations, "a taste" is an understatement for what Jalen's getting.

It'll depend on how he plays this year, but if he's really good and has a breakout season, yeah. Could be a lot more. (Maybe even the max.)

Vassel last season arelt was more efficient than Green on similar volume after being in the league for 4 years and he did that on the majority of his fgs assisted. He's not a guy you give the ball to and ask to self create. He'd be absolutely horrible in this last two years of Rockets offense. And I think any GM who knows anything about these two players knows that these two players are on completely different levels in terms of ability and talent.

Great to see. Jalen's by far our most talented player & should be the cornerstone of the franchise along with Jabari. FVV will make life so much easier for him

I like how FVV is taking Jalen under his wing... although Fred's wingspan is a little too short for a dude of Green's size.

What a great article that highlights his potential and weaknesses.

Jalen is capable of making the right pass and playing the right way, he has just never been held to that standard and fall back to “getting his”. The pocket pass will be open and he will make it, but when that same pass is open 5 times in a row he needs to make it every single time instead of thinking I passed it now it’s my turn to get a bucket, only then do you force the defense to adjust and close off that pass, which would lead to easier scoring opportunities for Green. Whether to score or pass should be solely determined by how the defense is playing you, not by how many times you haven’t shot the ball - that is the essence of playing winning basketball, which like Fvv said, we are all excited to see Green start playing - which his coaches and teammates will force him to do this year.

My read on Green is that he has a good heart and is not a selfish player, he wants to do what’s right, it’s just that between AAU to G league and then back to Silas AAU, he has never learned to play the right way, that should change this year.

The first video that Lowe used to criticize him, Green actually made the right decision. Jackson was clearly back-pedalling to cover Sengun. The middy was the right decision. I have noticed that a lot, defenses would drop, give him the middy to prevent the drive and in the meantime that cuts-off the passing lane to the roller. Not sure what Lowe and Udoka would want him to do in that case.

Guys, how about instead of asking him to make impossible decisions, put him off-ball and try to create action to open a lane for him. The kid has a feel and potential to play competently as a ball-handler, sure.. . however, he is super-duper-elite NOW, when he has a lane. A blur and a vicious dunk. The on-ball thing is not bad, but just... meh...

4/140 is about right for Jalen. Alpy maybe 3/80.

Wish it was possible to give multiple "Likes"... thanks for highlighting this article. Was beyond a great read and had so many gems that gave insight into a player's strengths, weaknesses, mindsight, and perhaps most importantly his overall potential. None of these should be new to those of us who have been watching, but to hear some of our guesses about his mindset and potential echoed by people in the room - coaches (current and former) is reassuring.

    1. To those who have questioned whether Jalen is an Alpha or has that "dog" in him - "You're supposed to lead by example," Jalen Green, then a 19-year-old rookie and No. 2 overall draft pick, chastised one of the few veterans on the team ... ...Only Green spoke up. "We need you to be better," Green continued. "You're supposed to show us how to do this."

    2. Loved how the article provided game clips to emphasize the some of the points regarding his strengths and weaknesses made by coach Udoka, Stone, and Green himself - "It's simple reads," Green said. "The pocket pass to Alpie [Sengun], or if the low man helps over, hitting that shooter in the corner."

    3. Absolutely love these two quotes, one regarding needed offensive improvement and the other defense -

"He has the ability to make the right play," Udoka continued. "You don't always see it on a young team where it's your turn, my turn, and guys are taking poor shots at times. But when the level of talent is raised around him, he makes the right reads. Now there are no excuses. I've seen you do it."

"We've argued a lot," Lucas said about Green when the subject turned to defense. "Jalen can guard when he wants to. He just hasn't been required to yet."

    4. Finally, of anyone that has commented on Jalen's potential I trust Lucas' assessment as someone that has worked very closely with him and is known to be a pretty straight shooter regarding players -

Lucas is confident. "In another year, he will really be a professional," Lucas said of Green. "Next season [2024-25], he is going to take off like Ja Morant and Devin Booker."
