You can't have one without the other. Slowick has definitely gotten a lot more creative (and aggressive) with his play calling and formations to take pressure off the O-Line and Stroud, but Stroud still needs to process what options the D leaves him with and get the the ball out fast. I would say that it's 60% Stroud and 40% Slowick as Stroud has not only been making great reads and getting the ball out quick, he has also been throwing with both precision and anticipation. That last TD throw to Nico and the throw to lead Dell back infield against the Jags were both beauties.
Man, this just gave me a revelation… this is how I used to feel about teams like the patriots, down to their back up back up qb jacoby brissett just dismantling a surging Texans team. Getting running backs or linebackers doing things they never did anywhere else. yet there we were with bill Obrien… and not having our starter Eric murray out there meant the whole thing was finished and we were gonna give up 50 pts. It’s just so refreshing to see a coaching staff SCHEME it makes players so much better. It’s really fun.
Any and all national sports shows are raving about C.J. After the first couple of games, I was thinking that I couldn't remember a Texan's QB throwing that accurately. Brought back memories of Warren Moon and the Oilers.
Now we need a fab 4 like Moon had to throw to. I'd love to see what CJ could do with a that. Who knows, maybe Collins, Dell, Woods, and Metchie will be just that. I'd love to draft another high pick WR next year though. The better the targets, the more great options CJ has to do his magic.
I'm still not believing what I'm seeing. I want to avoid overhyping myself but it's hard. The reads and throws he's making as a 21 year old in his 4th game, I'm flabbergasted. This isn't get out of the pocket make something happen rookie stuff. This man is running a full blown NFL structured offense...with a bad line.
You're 99% correct, he's 22yrs old. But Im with you! I don't want to get too hyped but it's hard to with everything he is doing with a makeshift o-line.
Not that it really matters, but "sealclubber" was technically correct since CJ was still 21 years old during his 4th game. The game Sunday in Atlanta will be his first as a 22 year old.
I'm starting to get a JJ Watt vibe with CJ. Some of us didn't want CJ, as was the case when JJ was drafted (though I liked that pick). But damn, CJ is making plays that only the top QBs in the league even attempt. I still haven't watched the PITT game as I just got back in town from helping my youngest son move, but the accolades pouring in are incredible. Hats off to all of you that saw CJ's potential, he's been phenomenal against a deck stacked against him.
I swear to sweet baby Jesus in his tuxedo t-shirt, if CJ Stroud is hiding some deviant behavior and this thing all blows to hell, I'm going to go on a six-state murder spree because I AM BOUGHT IN! He looks the part; he sounds the part. This is the most excited I've been about the Texans in a loooooooooooong time.
He was literally 21 the first four games of the season, lol. Kid turned 22 *yesterday.* Unbelievable.
I would like to burn the first 2-3 picks in next years draft on O Line. CJ looks like the franchise and needs to be protected at all costs. This whole thing is bizarre with Slowick and Stroud. it’s like putting Tom Brady lite in a quasi Kubiak offense heavy in play action and motion. Pure insanity,
Remember when it came out that Coleridge didn't take to coaching. It was funny then, jaw dropping now. He has mastered this offense at such an early age. Impressive that him and Purdy could look so comfortable so fast.
