I don't understand why you're so insistent on creating a flat earther concentration camp. Again, how does this even make sense and what makes you think this dystopia future would be so great. 4 years we lock up teh gayz and the next 4 years we lock up MAGA. Rinse repeat.

@rocketsjudoka yikes this is bad. Again I feel bad for the ukrianian people who did not deserve what's happening to them. The facts are the elites in ukriane have been corrupt for decades now and their oligarchs who run the country are just as bad as the Russians.

Alot of you posters can't separate the ukrianians as a population versus the corrupt elite who run the country including zelensky @Deckard

Apparently I live rent free in your head as I’m not sure why I’m being mentioned in the above. I’ve never denied that there was corruption in Ukraine and it’s good that the Admin is concerned about it. Also Zelensky wasn’t part of the elite. He was an outsider elected in response so corruption of the precious government. He’s also been taking steps to confront it including firing the defense minister.

Nine of that changes the fact that Ukraine was invaded and continues to be locked in a
Struggle with Russia. A country with far more corruption at than Ukraine.

That's perfectly fine to be upset that were pissing away some money on corrupt ukrianians but then you somehow are okay with trump passing a 2 trillion dollar tax scam? You're okay with him changing tax structures for Hedge funds so they save 200 billion over the next decade so they can buy more yatchs?

You can be upset at the ukraine war which is normal but then don't turn around and asslick trump who gave away TRILLIONS in tax scams to the wealthy. Corporate stock buybacks have skyrocketed since 2018. Who the hell is benefiting from rich board members inflating their portfolios?

Biden HAS to show strength or else russia would escalate. If you read the links I sent you the Biden folks want the war to end. They don't buy into the corruption.

Nice strawman with the flat earth reference. As for actual real world right now perspective, the government's number one job is protecting people. The government has already been dispelling lies. The FTC regularly says when something isn't true for our protection.

Regardless in terms of misinformation, if the government labels something false that clearly and is verifiable as false, how does that harm someone's first amendment protection? If the lie is against the government does the government not have a right to defend itself? What's your basis for that logic. Don't give me the strawman concentration camp stupidity. We aren't talking about punishment or arguing for punishment.

If you have any insight into my posting history (dig up 100% of posts over the last decade) you’ll find I’ve criticized trump over the same thing and I’ve never supported him (on here) on anything. He’s a terrible human being and was a terrible president

I don’t have allegiance to any specific politicians or party, this dichotomy you guys confine yourself to is why we have problems

LOL....That's what the other trillions are far in the US budget...... Not the paltry tens of billions to Ukraine. But don't let facts get in the way.

Speaking of the party that is f*cking over the poor.... Lets stop pretending both parties are the same.... It's just a bold faced lie.

I actually agree with this take, as a whole they aren’t the same. The worst of the worst are the Texas republicans. The greatest mercy in Texans would be to oust abbot, Paxton and the rest of their cartel. Completely self serving religious hypocrites that embody evil imo

That being said it has nothing to do with sending Ukraine 100B and trying to use it as an excuse for such proves my earlier. Point. Very few are able to thing outside the dichotomy and argue for issues based on Their merit as opposed to allegiance to parties

You keep acting like the usa wanted this war. Biden literally removed trumps sanctions on Nordstream 2 when he first came into office. He gave Putin a huge W and putin still invaded. Putin ultimatum was he wanted all the countries in Eastern Europe to remove all NATO infrastructure who joined post 1999.

There was no way in hell any USA president would agree to removing us military from NATO countries. There was nothing the Biden folks could've done to prevent the war. That's the sad reality of the situation.

Biden has ended 95% drone/air strikes in middle east, took combat troops out of Iraq and ended the Afghanistan scam which was costing us 300 million a day. Biden is literally the most anti war POTUS we've had in decades if you look at facts.

So? I don’t think anyone should be shocked by corruption in the Ukrainian government. It was a known problem for some time and I don’t think anyone should expect it to 100% go away with a new President. Wasn’t this President and his aide listed in the Panama Papers as having hidden bank accounts?

Either way - that doesn’t change the fact that Russia invaded them and the US has reasons to support the Ukrainians.

Fair point, and I think it's true that over time, the same media platforms that allow for the rapid spread of disinformation also allow for its correction. They tend to cancel each other out over time. However, creating disinformation is extremely easy, while correcting it is extremely time-consuming. In the short term, disinformation almost always prevails. States such as Russia (and China) understand this, and they continuously bombard with disinformation, consistently winning this battle within any given timeframe, as there is always material out there that lingers for hours to weeks before it can be corrected. More unfortunately, there are people who, over time, become steadfast believers in these falsehoods. Once people believe something, they tend to see things in a way that makes it easier for them to accept similar narratives. So, even though disinformation eventually gets "corrected," a significant number of individuals who have encountered it have already internalized it to some extent and can't be easily persuaded even with factual corrections or explanations.

The U.S. is clear that it will not involve its troops. AFAIK, Zelenskyy never said he wants U.S. troops on the front line. If he did, that would be a huge mistake, as it would immediately alienate U.S. support, both from this administration and from the U.S. public. I know there was a claim back in March or so of this year that he said that, but it was not true. The full context was that if Russia were to attack a NATO state, the U.S. would likely need to send troops to protect those countries. That's the same argument many supporters of Ukraine have made - Ukraine acts as a buffer, preventing Russia from escalating to NATO states.

No one has claimed that Ukraine is perfect. Ukraine's democracy is relatively new, and we've known for some time that it's riddled with corruption. This corruption stems from connections to Russia, including Putin himself and other oligarchs. Zelenskyy's surprise landslide election victory was seen as a significant pushback against corruption. The U.S. and the EU are rightfully concerned about this corruption and need to keep a careful eye on where funds and equipment are going and how they are being used. The 60-minute piece posted here talks about some of the requirements the U.S. has and what Ukrainian officials have done to ensure the proper tracking of military equipment. This is an area that the U.S. needs to monitor closely. We don't want to end up with two "Russias" when all is said and done.

Zelenskyy is doing what he believes is best for his country. I imagine that a lasting peace treaty between Ukraine and Russia would involve Ukraine regaining most, if not all, of its territory and possibly even inflicting pain inside Russia itself. These are strategies that might be necessary to bring Putin to the negotiating table for a peace deal. I think Crimea, being Ukrainian land, is fair game. The attack on Russia's land itself, if accurate, is a bit precarious to me, but I also believe it's fair game if the attack is focused on military sites and infrastructure. Ukrainians are facing long-distance rocket attacks, and they have the right to defend themselves, even if it means targeting areas within Russia's territory.

Again, I put myself in the shoes of the two sides. If I'm Ukrainian, I'm absolutely going to ask the EU to ban X or any other platform that won't deal with disinformation. The likelihood of that happening is probably close to nil. But it does achieve something - it gets the EU to be more aggressive in cracking down on disinformation. This is probably the right time to push for this - the EU has already warned X directly, stating that they must adhere to their standards (I posted an article about it earlier in this thread).

Of course it does… you are incorrectly trying to make the case that because of Ukraine we can’t help our own citizens… We absolutely can and are.

$100 billion to Ukraine over two years is a fraction of the budget.

There seems to be this idea by some that if they can show that Ukraine is less than perfect - then the USA shouldn't be supporting them and that is just false. It is something that Putin tried to push at the beginning of this war as well. The fact is that Ukraine 85 years ago did support the Nazi's over the Soviet Communists - at least until they realized that the Nazi's were as bad as the Soviets. Let's not forget that Ukrainians were starving under Soviets. Also - that was 85 years ago.

Are there some racists or supremecists in Ukraine? Yes - just like there are in every country in Europe. Is there corruption in Ukraine? Absolutely, it is a young country that has not had a firm footing and was under the control of the corrupt Soviet Union.

None of this changes the fact that Ukraine was invaded by Russia - again, and that Russia can end the war by leaving. Also - the skeletons in the Russian closet are far worse than anything Ukraine has done. Russia literally has Nazi white supremacy members high up in their government and military and no one is more corrupt than Putin.

With all due respect I hope you dont take this the wrong way but youre full of ****. You cant sit here and claim that Biden has to help Ukraine with their struggle but then at the same time claim biden is the most useless politican bcz hes not controlling gas prices and energy prices. This is such a maddening mindset that you spew which is utter bullshit. Its a lose lose situation which is why biden is polling in the dumpster right now. Biden has passed more historic legislation than literally any other POTUS and he gets zero credit. You literally claimed in the other thread that the current democractic party is the most useless party youve ever seen lol. Amazing but sure lets keep funding UKR war!!!

Biden will never please the pro ukraine crowd like yourself because majority of them still expect to have low gas prices and have a perfect world. The other half of UKR supporters demand biden give ukraine every weapon the USA has to UKR can take back crimea and the entire donbass. Biden will never win with the pro ukraine crowd while he gets killed in the polling for the side effects of this war.

I dont buy into the bs that this UKR war is more important than American democracy. If biden was smart he would use this republican obstruction as an exucse to push for an end to the war and focus on the domestic economy. Nobody in 2024 will vote for biden because of the ukraine war. 100x more people will vote for Trump with the promise of cheap gas.

I seriously hope biden gets his head out of his ass and brings an end to this war

I 100% agree, is there corruption, I am sure there is as in ANY government, ours included. The new narrative is that "there bad" so they should not get any more money and you have folks like MTG and Gaetz leading the charge to not send any money to them because we should help American's first when in reality, we can do both. The problem is that folks like MTG and Gaetz don't actually pass any legislation to help the people they are spouting this garbage to and then it pisses their base off as if there really going to get a "piece of the pie"........its fear mongering which is what maga is, they put the fear of GOD in their cult but don't actually do anything about it.

Anyone or anything that has a child sex traficker in Gaetz and an ultra racist troll in MTG leading it is an automatic - opposite from what we should be doing.

Those two should be out on their ass if the GOP wasn't corrupt.

I didn't claim Biden has to do anything. He can decide to cut off aid to Ukraine tomorrow because of concerns over gas prices - or he can decide to double down on supporting Zelensky and ride out gas prices.

You take things personal that you shouldn't. Being the President of the United States largely isn't a fair job. Yeah - Biden is going to be blamed for gas prices if they remain high, and yes - he will be criticized if he cuts support to Ukraine. A candidate takes the country as it is, when they run. Biden ran in a time of a lot of turmoil and knew a lot of blame would be placed on him for some things beyond his control.

As for the current Democratic Party - yeah in a lot of ways it is pretty useless. From an emphasis on stuff that the overwhelming majority of Americans do not care much about, to an inability to control the government when the other party is entirely insane and off the rails. If Biden wins re-election, I suspect that he will be viewed differently than a lot view him now - BUT if he loses to Trump, he will be viewed as an overall failure for his inability to prevent such a divisive Politician from taking office.

There have been President's like this before - some like Truman are viewed well in hindsight, others like Carter - not so much.

But trump has MTG at his rallies and is his best friends with Gaetz and is polling neck and neck with biden because of this ukr war. What does that mean for us as a society ?

This war is directly responsible for high electricity costs and high gasoline which is the main factor why we have high interest rates and why Americans hate this economy.

What's the goal here? You keep acting like MTG is this foreign figure but she's literally Trumps best friend
