ive got basketball coming up in a month or so....and i need to get in shape really fast for the running im gonna be doing. The question is.....do those Pilates dvds that say you will be in shape and lose weight in 28 days really, truly work? Ive been looking on ebay and if anyone could please please tell me more about it.....i would greatly appreciate it.
Hey Mo Taylor, I am glad you are finally trying to be in shape by the start of the season. But here is one tip, lay off the fudge. Pilates can be a very effective method for obtaining long and lean muscles, but it is very important to maintain proper form and breathing. If you are looking to lose weight, your focus should start with nutrition. Practicing pilates will be effective for basketball, for flexibility and core strength. I would be weary of videos for a beginner as there is no one present to correct form and help out. I would suggest finding a qualified instructor and attend beginner's classes for a couple of weeks for pilates.
first of all.....calling me mo taylor is an insult LOL and second...i only make the fudge...i dont eat it. Im not so much overweight as im just not in game shape. I get winded easier now because ive rested the whole summer. I want to be able to keep up in drills and in the full court presses and so on. I also want my weight-lifting to show...i thought maybe if my body was slender...my muscles would show that much more.
Send me a SASE and I will send you a sample. I promise it will be the best fudge you have....and will ever taste.
Something that I have found is that no matter how much a person runs in the offseason, nothing really prepares a player for full court basketball than playing full court basketball. For your muscles to show, it seems you want to decrease body fat more than lose weight. And once again, nutrition is the key to that. Hope you did not take any offense to the Mo Taylor crack, just a late night attempt at comedy.
Nah...it was funny...I just bought a pilates dvd for 8.00 and so im hoping they are right when they say i can do this in 28 days LOL
One of my dance partners started me doing that. I did some this morning. It's reasonably effective, as would be anything working the core. Go ahead and get a dvd, if you're curious. I'd recommend rebok over winsor or gaim. I think some of the exercises are stupid - esp. that "hundred" thing. Others are just diffferent ways to work your abs, esp the ball stuff. Some of it is just hokey goofiness. The machine is a bunch of crap. Now, on the other hand - Hot yoga is a good change of pace. Try that. There's a bikram yoga on portsmouth, and a yoga place in shepard square. Lots of cute girls in yoga class, too. Yoga makes you work your body weight, using muscle to align the body in the poses. It opens your mind, too. If you sweep your arms up in a sun salutation, it's going to open your chest, and make you feel good. Nice way to start the day, at sunrise. .
My wife is in tremendous shape and pilates is one of the things she used to get there. But, she also does aerobic trainging, weights and yoga. It can be very effective, but as someone pointed out, make sure you do it with someone who knows how to do it correctly. It requires good body position.
I actually second that. If you find yourself getting winded easily, then bikram yoga actually helps you with increasing your breathing capacity. The hot room also helps your breathing as well. After a few sessions I notice that I have deeper breaths and can sustain my wind longer. Especially good in the "bedroom" department as well www.bikramyoga.com
All I know is, all the chicks I knew in high school got fat when they got to college, but then once day a few of them started doing Pilates. Good as new. I'm a fan of the Pilates.
Here's the bikram yoga on South Blvd in Rice Village : http://www.bikramyogahouston.com/southblvd.html The yoga dvds are pretty good, too. Get comfortable with that and then strip down and try the bikram. Key words from the site : "Please dress in cool clothing, wearing as little as you're comfortable wearing." You could go in the black merona vented wicking poly compression shorts underwear from Target. It looks like short poly boxer briefs. Not that I'd know. Of course, this assumes you can keep the mind open, and the body loose, if you know what I mean.
Yeah I've tried that place a few times. I really like it but it's so hard to fit into my schedule amongst the weight training, tennis and basketball and now table tennis since I just got a table. I'm only able to go like once or twice a month
