    I actually started a Roman empire documentary on Netflix yesterday. How bizarre?

    Very strange. I just did a search for British Roman historical fiction last night.

    @malakas

    Yeah I think about the Romans in a similar fashion to how I think about the Vikings, Aztecs, even neanderthals

    At some point a group of Homo's were walking around and doing stuff, just like me.

    And also some stuff that was really different. I love thinking about crap like that.

    Lost roman cooking herb -

    It also apparently doubled as a very effective abortifacent.

    My impression is people (myself included) have a pretty shallow understanding of the ins and outs of the Roman Empire, so I kind of wonder what all these dudes are spending all this time thinking about, and whether it has anything in common with reality.

    Fits the description. Written by a celebrated British historian who's specialty is Roman history. This is a short series and the focus of the novel is Roman Britain.

    Takes place in Rome and written by an Austin resident. The protagonist is a detective for hire and Saylor makes it work so well that he's written a whole series about the guy.
