The Chinese officials at the Olympics do not like what Yao said after the game against Spain and think that he is becoming more and more rebellious like an American athlete. They are also thinking about restricting Chinese basketball players to play in the NBA in the future.

The Chinese officials are afraid that what Yao said could cause internal conflicts within the team. That's their major concern.

    sigh.

first of all... i read sports.sina.com.cn... Yao is not in trouble.

second of all... the link is to a message board, which has a re-post of an article from sports.sina.com.cn, which i didn't find on sports.sina.com.cn

third of all... the article in question says nothing about Yao Ming in trouble. a couple of unnamed officials with some of their own opinions which weren't that harsh to begin with

it's a statement of a fact -- Yao shouldn't have made disparaging remarks about his teammates, the outburts hurts the unity of the team.

just hopefully... it motivates the team too we'll see soon right?

Well, at least Yao got out. The statement refers to future Chinese players.

This is going to happen sooner or later. While I dont think it's good idea for Yao to diss teammates in public after a loss, I also dont like the fuss made out of it. It was just some frustration. Media can spin it however it wants to it be, but dont mix the crap like "Yao is Americanized". What the F has frustration to do with being Americanized. The dude lost his cool, that's all.

okay i just read the two you posted...

these reporters are so sensationalistic... that's really too bad. just like how a bunch of people are directly or indirectly attacking Del Harris too.

it's all the mindset caused by all these years of struggles in the international arena. men's basketball is the only major sports team that even made the Olympics. i mean... if you win, you a god, and if you lose, you're worth less than a pile of crap. sad. hopefully it changes at some point down the line.

Too bad Yao has much more power now than the few basketball officials from the sports ministry. Basically Yao didn't like the current roster and teammates lack of effort. He felt embarrased for the veterans that are left out of the team. I don't blame him.
