I just need somewhere to say this I guess. Not someone with food allergies. Just like, people who don't eat good food. Like you're 50, develop a palette already. Just the worst. I mean like yeah, Nazis and murderers and such. But other than those people, picky eaters. What even is your purpose on this planet? Boiling chicken and consuming 3 cartons of Velveeta a week? Gross. The worst.
I don't have a problem with people not eating different foods, I have a problem with people not, at least, trying different foods.
I'm the only non-picky eater in my family. It's annoying. But I have dealt with it by becoming the family cook, and letting people know that if they don't want what I'm cooking then too damn bad.
I thought I was a picky eater until I met my wife. I am fairly picky but she takes it to another level. In her case, I think it’s something psychological. Her mom died when she was 11 and it seems her palette stopped about then. I do 99% of the cooking and have to make her something separate from the kids and I many nights.
I used to work with a guy that was a picky eater... It was AWESOME, any time a restaurant would mess up his order at breakfast/lunch/dinner he'd just give it to me. This was a retail job like 20 years ago and it sucked, but free food was great! Anyway he'd bring in a burger/sandwich from somewhere on way into work and they'd put like mustard/mayo on it or even vegetables! I'm like "just scrape it off if you don't like it, it's not that big of a deal" and he's like "it's ruined" or some crazy talk, he'd then hand it over, haha. Like any sign there's more than meat, cheese, and bread and he was out. Don't get me wrong, I'm more of a mustard guy on burgers etc, but if someone is giving me a free burger with mayo, I'm eating a burger with mayo. Anyway, I'm not too picky. Obviously there's exceptions here, I mean if someone has true dietary restrictions/allergic then that's one thing, but throwing away a whole burger because there's some mustard/mayo etc on it is just crazy.
Preach. I am a terrible cook, but not bad enough to motivate anyone else to make dinner apparently. They get what they get.
I have several friends who are really picky eaters. A couple of them were traveling with me in Asia and most of the time they just ate McDonalds. We were in some of the greatest food cities in the World and they just wanted to eat burgers and fries. I know someone else who is so picky she can only eat Kraft Mac and Cheese, pizza from one pizza chain in Minnesota, and only food that she makes or her mom makes. She’s in her late 40’s. She was once talking about going to go to Ireland but didn’t know what she would be able to eat in Ireland. Not Thailand but Ireland..
What are some examples of food she will not eat? I can understand avoiding foods that sound bad (i.e. goat milk, bugs, deer, cow brain, etc), but many times you could blindly eat something without having any problem, then after discovering what it is have a problem. I knew a woman who said water tastes bad, and would only drink it if she was very thirsty. I was like, "it's water". It doesn't taste good or bad, but anyone should be able to easily drink it. She could only eat chocolate with nuts. Good girl, weird palate
I was a chef for many years before a moved into food management. My wife is a dual citizen of USA and Ireland. when you talk about picky she is the poster child. Beef of chicken or pork only, but no sausage or pork roast. She only does grilled pork tenderloin. The only veggies she eats are what she calls pizza vegetables. Peppers, onions and sautéed mushrooms. If she orders a hamburger at a restaurant it had better not have a pickle on the plate. Because if the pickle juice touches her French fries Katy bar the door. she is so opposed to condiments she will not even bring me Ketchup from the fridge. I love spicy pickles, but if I eat them I have to be out of sight, which is ok because i like to drink the pickle juice. Only roasted, baked mashed or French fried potatoes. Will not eat rice. I eat everything so I always have to make additional sides, and if we go to a restaurant that offers a veg and salad with dinner I get to double up, because I get hers. she did recently order beef fajitas from a local Mexican restaurant. But I get the rice, guac, beans, cheese, and pico. Two things I must mention. My wife is ALWAYS gracious at restaurants when ordering and if a mistake is made she jus eats the unaffected items. Next is, she consistently has better medical checkups than me.
My good bros. We’re all bruhs here. Let’s get to the root. No need for analogies or metaphors. She doesn’t have to swallow, just hold it in her mouth until you’re done. The key is that she’s happy you’re happy.
Unfortunately, this is me, I am not a fan of eating anything outside my comfort zone..............I wish I would like sushi but I cant, Thai food, No thanks.....if I could live off Tacos, Pizza and Burgers I would be a happy man
This is my situation as well. Nobody in my family prepares meals except for me. They all b**** about what I make. Tough ****. Learn to cook.
Eh, I'm picky so I don't judge. I don't do salads or red meats unless they're easily chewable (ground beef/pork, brisket, pulled pork, etc.) and I cannot stand the texture of fat. I'm mainly a poultry or seafood person. If we go to a restaurant, I can find something on the menu. If it's a homecooked meal, I'll avoid the parts I dislike. I don't mind being hungry. I won't get hangry or make a big deal out of it, nor do I expect the host to cater to my tastes.
My wife says I'm a picky eater. However I love tasting everything, I just don't like eating the food if I think it's bland. If I screw up something I cook, I trash it, but my wife will eat it. She thinks everything is good. There are restaurants that we stop going over the years because I noticed that the food taste changed considerably or quality went down.
