This might sound stupid but I was sorta wondering if theres any type of items that you guys might think I need that I wouldnt think of off the top of my head. Like items that you dont think you will need until you get down there and you end up needing it more than you think. Was sorta wondering because I move into my dorm in a few days, figured some of you could help me out. Thanks in advance

lol... that's really solid advice. it really makes all the difference in the world.

headphones... maybe some good earplugs... you never know how wild your roommy will be. and if you're the wild one, you can lend it him.

I'm in the same boat with you; I've asked plenty of people and things like shower sandals and bath robes are necessities.

Others have said that lofts are good for storage; I'm just getting some bed lifts. ALso, folding chairs are great if people ever come over since they take up little space. Same thing with a table. I found a small folding round table (about the size of an extra large pizza) for $10 at CVS.

I'm liking the headphone and especially air freshener advice from horror stories I've heard...

Shower shoes are a must, bathrobe if you want, also come to think of it, maybe a box of bandaids and a tube of neosporin or something...

Storage options depend on your dorm room. In Jester dorms at UT, there was enough storage to hide 2 people and some more stuff under your bed, but it was all built in. If you are able to move your bed and lift it, I suggest cinder blocks. They've worked well for my friends who have used them.

You might want to put together a basic set of over the counter meds. Nothing is worse than being stuck in your dorm during an ice storm with the flu. I remember the first time I got sick away from home. It really sucked.

Oh yeah, storage is going to be tight. But what ever you do, don't put your Ramen next to your laundry detergent. It'll just end up tasting like Tide, and you'll never be able to eat Ramen again.

I'm moving in Thursday. I've got maybe 8 boxes to bring...hmmm...don't forget a tote to bring your toiletries in. Also bring your PS2 or any games if you're into that. Laundry bags, duct tape, and I'm sure there are other stuff.

When I started my freshman year of college, I brought a TON of crap. Didn't use any of it.

TV, computer, pillow, blankey, bong. End of list of what you need, brah.

My dorm room at Tech also had plenty of storage space. The beds were built in to the wall and had drawers on the underneath. It was a weird design, but it worked.

The only thing I didn't have that I wish I had brought was an oscillating fan. Even with the A/C, my room was a little too warm.

*Power chords and extension chords. I bought at least 3 or 4 power chords on top of what I already had last year.

    *Egg-crate foam mattress. A must.

*A neon-lamp in the shape of a beer mug. Ok, maybe not a must, but it's nice to have your own lighting so you don't have to live with the 40000 watt lighting all the time.

*Portable laundy bag. Don't buy the cheap white net kind that hang, they fall apart easily.

*If you plan on hooking up more than one entertainment system (DVD, PS2, Xbox etc) you will need one of those multi-channel switchers. Radio Shack has them for about $15 i think.

    *A cheap basic tool kit.

*DO NOT buy a big trash can. They take up too much space. I'd say don't get one at all (this is what I did last year), and just buy trash bags. Just make sure everyone actually throws their trash IN the bag and not just around it. It sucks when you go to take out the trash and there is more out of the bag than in it.

Do whatever you can to avoid eating Ramen regularly is my advice. :)

For the common room and hallway, you'll need yard markers, a nerf football, tape for goal posts, and jersey. You'll eventually need some wall board and plaster for when your tackle takes you through the wall (yes, been there and done that) and possibly a broom to sweep up any glass should a tackle take you through the sliding window (yes, done that too). You may need a megaphone to tell the other people on the floor to shut up when they yell about the noise at 1 am. Just tell them it's a night game. That'll do. You may need tree lamps for a night game by the way. That's optional. If you want to simulate weather conditions a match will set off the sprinkler system, though you may get fined or penalized.

Hope you have a good season.
