I saw that finger. I was like "WOW, Yao heard Doug Collins bash him on the last foul out play that Yao should've gone up for the block instead of trying to get a charge. Yao told Doug F-U."
I never saw Yao was so animated. I think it's good to know that he can be flared up like that.
Now, Yao needs to dis-trust everybody and go for the kill each and every poession he gets in the post.

I guessed you didn't read the article did you? Of course Yao could've score alot of points but it would be meaningless if they still lost. Yeah his stats would look great but the man want to win as a team. Everyone knows China is a one man team and Yao want to get his teammates involve in case they double and triple team him then its over if his team can play without him. It's so obvious we saw how many points he could score and all that. I guessed his strageties to involve his players was a not so great idea and hopefully he be more determine to take more shots instead of giving it to his teammates. But it take a team to win a game not just individual. Just look at the US.

I had theory. Maybe Yao's setting up his teammates by going to the public. Let's see about the next game. If the whole team collapse, Yao definitely needs to get a copy of the art of war.

I'd rather he read the book, "The Art of Shooting Over the Double Team."

Once the whole team comes out and plays with everything they have. Winning and loosing becomes meaningless. I say this because it's obvious just by watching them that they are not giving it their all. Most of the team gave up mid-3rd quarter.

And Will. This is not just about Yao. One of the things I was trying to figure out was what he was saying when he fouled out. I'm not sure if he was yelling due to embarrassment of fouling out, or what? A lot of times his teammates and coaches will give him a look and say, "Why did you foul?" Like that. And I'm sure it gets on his nerves. Plus, to give insult to injury they were down by 25! It's the kinda of thing where all hell is breaking loose, much of it YOUR fault, and you do nothing but lash out. True, there are many things to blame Yao for! I do. I hate it when he lets his endurance lapse or lets Gasol dunk on him all the time. But I bet you one thing. He's been wanting to say a few things for a long time. They just came out all at once. Call it immaturity call it lack of experience... or whatever.

I'm still glad it happened. Watch out! When the pissed off Yao plays. Good things happen.

On a side note, I do remember seeing plays that Yao flashed for the ball but did not receive it. Imagine this. Imagine that you push for position in the post the whole game and don't receive the ball. Then watch one of your teammates throw up a brick. Then, your opponent fast-breaks on you. You have to run back and they get a dunk. You go back and try and post up for position, but again, you don't get the ball. One of your teammates again throws up a bad shot. They run on you, and again you have to get back on defense. Back and forth they went...getting behind more and more...

So, not only was Yao not getting the ball, Spain went fast-break happy on them. And that was killing Yao. This is directly related to the bad defense that whole team plays. I mean, it's bad enough they were throwing up bad shots. But to not get back on defense made it worse.

"Wind-sprint" should be Yao new word(s). "Defense" should be the rest of the team's.

So, anyways. Yao had "pie" on his face. And when the coaching staff and media pointed it out. He let loose with other things that had been bothering him. I say, good.

Totally agreed DavidS. That game was damn frustrating for Yao and the whole team. Nothing went right for them. Something must have went really wrong for Yao to be this vocal. Enough is enough is what Yao's saying.

Shut up your f**k hole if you didn't even watch the game. Yao was plain sucked, and totally humiliated by Gasol.

    i didn't see this posted.

    http://2004.sina.com.cn/cn/bk/2004-08-16/68182.html

Q: the media says you've considered retiring from the National team, is that true?

A: i have not thought of it. i love my country a lot, and my team too. i hope that people can understand the mood/reactions of young people.

Yao says the reason that he was so emotional was that the elders (obviously he's talking about Hu Weidong and Fan Bin, etc) had worked so hard for the National team and didn't make the Olympics, yet they have to sit at home and watch games like that. He felt that current team disgraced the elders who had contributed so much to the history of Chinese basketball.

No. He was yelling at his teammates on the court, then off the court, blamed them in front of the media. Li-Yuanwei came to talk to him because his public display of outrages was not what the Chinese delegation wanted.

Who cares what the "delegaton" wanted.

Yao was pissed and had a right to be. He admittedly was displeased with his own play, but it seems like he's not getting much help and the frustration took over.

Maybe this will light a fire under some of the guys who are "ignoring" the coach -- BTW, What is the delegation's protocol on ignoring the coach?

    ___________________________________________________

From JONATHAN FEIGEN's article (available in full on another post)

. . . Yao had already barked at teammate Menke Bateer, who, when not launching 3-pointers, had been playing defense like one of Harris' Mavericks. Yao had ripped into teammates who ignored Harris' instructions. He had broken with Chinese protocol that says every player is to be treated as an interchangeable, equal part and that decorum is valued. . . .

. . . "He was yelling at the players. That was what he was talking about. I don't know what he said, but I know what he was mad about. He was basically saying, `(When) the coach calls something, you run it.' "

Hey, I agree, it's great for Yao to try to light a fire under his teammates. But don't you think it's about time somebody lit a fire under Yao? A fire that burns on the court and not just off it?

I don't understand all the fuss about Yao's vocal eruption. He is very proud of representing his country in the Olympics and is disappointed at his teammates lying down without a fight against Spain. WTF was wrong with that (for showing some patriorism)?

And the orignial translation is all wrong. Yao said that he is older than lots of his current teammates and he will retire from international games before (his teammates retire). He is not talking about retiring from CNT in the near future.

This seems more logical knowing Yao and his demeanor. I can't imagine the guy saying " We suck.... I quit"! Doesn't add up. I do like the fire that Yao has brought though, and I still feel like Tracy will be the perfect compliment to him. He knows he could have scored but that his team would have still suffered. Tracy won't hesitate. He will put up the numbers and use Yao to get them. I feel bad for Yao but maybe this will leave him hungry and anxious for this upcoming NBA season.
