Its 2 games in and some of you want to start saying it's a disaster.............in the humble words of Aaron Rodgers.......RELAX, yes it was a bad day but one positive is CJ, I think we have a potential star in the making. This is going to take some time, its only 2 games and I did not expect much this year except to see "progress"........was it pretty , hell no but I see some things they can build on, but first they have to get healthy, we have the "B' team of an offensive line, no safeties so let's give this some time, we need better quality players at the skill positions and some time to work out this scheme.........but let's not have an overreaction Monday
We’re all disappointed. We would love to immediately turn a corner, but we weren’t two top-three picks away clearly. The OL is already in shambles and the backups clearly aren’t it. However, CJ has looked solid and clearly isn’t the problem. WR room is underwhelming on paper, but has shown some flashes (especially Collins). I’m still looking forward to what it looks like with Metchie and Dell out there at the same time. The defense worries me. This is where we expected the most immediate improvement and after a 7-6 halftime score in week 1, I was hopeful. Yesterday erased that hope. Losing the two safeties hurt, but the middle of the DL got gashed all day and that is not good in a division with ARich and D Henry. I hope Ryans lays into this group during film as this side of the ball is the sink vs tread water group for how this season will go.
Bright spot: CJ with 4 missing starters on the OLine looked good. Nico Collins and Dell look like a good combo. — Needs: That defense looks bad without Pitre O Line must get healthy quick Lack of holes in running game needs vast improvement (see O Line)
This! We had gaping holes on offense AND defense! We weren't going to instantly solve that. At least we are starting this season with a new coaching staff that isn't afraid to let our rookie QB throw the ball, and do it well. We also have a better defensive unit, and with time that will begin to show.
The defense and DeMeco are the causes for concern from this game. The OL will hopefully get healthy, but the defense looked unprepared in all capacities. Had AR not gotten concussed, this game would've gotten way uglier. Injuries to the safeties aside, it was concerning how rough the defense looked.
Hopefully DeMeco can come up with better schemes to address that. It's not like we don't have talent on defense. My biggest concern right now is Josh Jones, and him allowing the defense to storm our QB with ease, and nobody great to take his spot.
If ar hadn’t got hurt, we might have won. His accuracy issues were on display in this game. The mustache is a much better qb right now.
DeMeco was outcoached yesterday. Schematically his defense was out of position more often than not. This aspect will also be part of the process as everyone settles into their strengths. I really thought that even without top shelf talent that DeMeco would be able to impact games with his instinct and preparation as a defensive coordinator, but as is the case with almost everything in the sports world it relies mostly on talent. We still need a fair amount of playmakers on both sides of the ball before we can be taken seriously.
Once he’s surrounded by Tunsil and Juice I think his impact will be minimized slightly. Patterson and Green are at best 3rd stringers. We do need to upgrade at RG.
I’m way more concerned about the run defense being gashed like it was, it’s been not good at all so far. AR and Moss would’ve ran all over the D, but yes Minshew is prob a top 3 backup QB and knows the offense very well and that was evident.
I think that Indy clearly schemed for DeMeco's defense yesterday and it showed. They had lots of film on his defense from his time at SF. Going into this game far too many people here were dismissive of the Colts due to the antics of their clownish, dumbfu*k owner. Make no mistake Shane Steichen is the real deal and is not a coach you want to underestimate.
