    Baseball is fluky as ****.
The players are trying just as hard.
It's up to the manager to make the best decisions putting the team in position to win.

Is it true he didn't have Neris properly warmed up?

I heard something about that... but I do wonder... would it be feasible to have Neris function as an opener in the playoffs?

On so there is precedence for a manager in this exact position to be fired with just 2 weeks to go on the season.

    Ned Yost 2008.

They were tied for 1st in their division but had lost 11 of their last 14 games when the GM pulled the plug on him.

    83-67 record at the time

If the Astros lose today, they will be, wait for it.................. 83-67.

Losing 5 of 6 to the A's and Royals is actually worse than losing 11 of your last 14 games.

Oh we are past questioning this.

He will NOT return as Astros manager. And if you are dealing in semantics, he technically will not be fired, he just won't be offered another contract.

Crossing fingers Detroit will stupidly fire Hinch.

I didn't think dusty would be welcomed back this year but here we are.

Yes Neris was rushed after Altuve hit that homer. Dusty originally had Urquidy warming up. Probably resigned himself to a loss at that point but had to scramble when it was tied. Neris hasn't looked that bad in awhile.

AJ Hinch with Astros (5 years):
    481-329 59.4% win percentage... 28-22 postseason
46.2% challenge overturn rate, 11 ejections
    2 pennants, 1 WS title
0.2% IBB rate, 1.0% Sac bunt rate
    0.62 PH/G, 0.22 PR/G, 4.1 Pitchers/Game
5 top 10 Manager of the Year finishes

Dusty Baker with Astros (3+ years)
    313-220 58.7% win percentage... 28-14 postseason
50.0% challenge overturn rate, 5 ejections
    2 pennants, 1 WS title
0.2% IBB rate, 0.7% sac bunt rate
    0.53 PH/G, 0.12 PR/G, 4.1 Pitcher/game
3 top 10 Manager of the Year finishes

Considering Hinch inherited a 70-92 team (LMJ, Correa are the only big names making their debut), and Baker a 107-55 team, and the COVID year Astros were under .500 in the regular season with Garcia/Javier making debuts but Verlander and Urquidy largely out of commission... I say Hinch has done more still even with cheating scandal in play.

Dusty has a non cheating WS title. That is better than anything Hinch has done.
