She mostly has a good sense for when it is smarter to wait it out. Wouldn't be surprised if the team proactively got in touch with everyone and asked them to keep quiet for now.

Okay, let's not jump to conclusions!

KPJ is NOT a serial killer.

    Yet.

Remind me who was "trailing the pack" when it came to judging KPJ's character?

No one...not a single ****ing soul, everyone knew it was a risk but some of us chose to be hopeful instead of cynical.

No harm in taking a risk on his talent, clearly didn't work out so time to move on.

The most insane thing to me about the kpj thing was why they even bothered. What was the point? What was his ceiling? Fringe starter? Solid backup? I get taking a chance on someone who could be a star, a franchise changer. Kpj was never close to that level

See that is where we differ, I think KPJ has all world talent, but his head is screwed on backwards...apparently - nothing wrong with taking a risk on him.

It is like being in healthcare where you ask an app about symptoms, it is a guess as to whether they line up, and educated guess, but still a guess.

KPJ had amazing talent, but would he stay on the straight and narrow????? That was the question that was asked, and the answer was......NO........though some of us, me included were hopeful that the answer was yes.

Taking a chance on him for a 2nd rounder is one thing, but the team cut him WAY too much slack. Even a potential star should have been severely disciplined for leaving the arena in the middle of a game. The fact that they coddled someone who never showed true star potential (especially the mental component of what it takes to be a star) is baffling to me. This was a giant, glaring mistake the team made, and it seems that everyone around the league knew it would backfire on us while Stone and Co. just sat there, clueless AF.

The whole thing is beyond embarrassing.

That is fair, I don't think it was as big of a deal as you, but I can see where it was a continuation of enabling him.....and in the end, probably should have been dealt with in a much more harsh manner.

    Here's the choices:

1 - Cut him and pay him the guaranteed money.
You lose the use of the salary slot generated by a $15.6m contract.

2 - Trade him for a similar size contract
Preserving the cap slot and let some other team cut him.

Either way he's getting cut. The difference is that two teams get something out of the use of the contract.

For the Rockets they retain a large contract to facilitate future salary moves.
For the team getting Porter, they get cap relief.

The Rockets are in the process of building their roster - they don't want the meaningless $4m space under the cap, they want to be able to maneuver above it and that contract is the financial instrument that allows them to do so - That salary slot is even more important after the extensions of the Green & Sengun kick in as they drive you far over the cap.
With it you are able to maneuver over the cap, without it you have to give up something you may actually value.

What do you mean amazing talent? Like lebron is an amazing talent, jokic, guys like that. Was there any world where kpj could have developed into a top 100 player? Maybe a fringe outside chance? Certainly no chance for top 50 or anything ridiculous like that. When the payoff is having the 6th best guy in the league, fine. When the payoff is having a decent role player? Just stupid

All those twitter dudes like Paulo act like they really know these players and get so invested in what they think their personal lives are. It's weird. It's like their Fandom never went past the little kid stage. It doesn't even occur to these idiots that the image they see is extremely curated. Ofc the org is going to paint Jalen and KPJ as bffs
