Did Osuna have two violent felony charges?

No, but this proves my point. Osuna had no business being on the team when he had that going on, the team traded for him and kept him on the roster and fans excused it all the same because the Astros win. No one cares if the team is winning. That's really all I heard along with the cheating scandal from other fans, how the Astros were a scumbag organization that not only cheated but protected domestic abusers.

If KPJ was an all NBA first teamer I guarantee you we're having a different conversation right now.

Seen way too many athletes get away with their actions. Hell, I saw Browns fans talk about how they would never accept Watson but lo and behold, here we are, Browns look like a good team and now all those "NEVER ACCEPT THIS!" sounds more like "Well...maybe..." or "It's in the past."

Just being real here, I'm not calling no one out in particular, just saying in general the PR means nothing to these teams. Whether a player or team rebounds from it depends on how good or bad they are.

A legendary coach once said, winning is the best deodorant.

No one is going to trade for him to be on their team. It is to waive him and dump another player they don't want and get assets. KPJ won't even travel to the team, he would be waived immediately. I'm sure there are teams are looking to dump a multiyear salary and get assets. There is no PR hit to a team to get assets and immediately waive KPJ. KPJ is done in the NBA period even if his girlfriend gets paid off to not press charges. Ime is not looking to be a bottom feeder team. He wants a player that can contribute to help fill this hole in the lineup.

I still cant figure out the outrage. If we waive him outright, we dont get anything in return. However, if we can waive him and send picks that we dont need the next 1 or 2yrs but get an asset back that can help us, what is the harm??

The NBA is a business. If you can profit from a depreciating asset....Do it

Zero chance a deal happens, IMO. Houston would look even worse than they already do by trying to use an abuser as an asset. As would any team attempting to acquire his contract.

Any decision by this front office other than immediately cutting ties with KPJ the second they possibly can would be a terrible one. Dude's a monster. Distance yourself from him as quickly as possible.

people need to stop thinking about kpj the person, that's not relevant. It's just a 1 year 16 mil contract, the "player" doesn't matter.

This trying to move KPJ with attached pick(s) is the Rockets PR team scrambling to put out a 50 acre forest fire with a gallon of water, but miracles do sometimes happen so that 1% chance is still there, hardest part will be getting someone on the actual line to entertain it, maybe BK does it for some of their picks back for Harris

I would maybe do it for a sniper like Hield if it cost a couple second rounders

The whole idea of the Rockets *trading*, for "an established player" - in return for the absolutely radioactive commodity who is soon to be residing in Rikers because of a violent felony charge - is so absolutely delusional I'm embarrassed for whatever fool who texted Chams.

No right thinking team would even be sullied with having their name mentioned as a potential destination, let alone besmirch themselves in that way

I'm still floored by the fact that some idiots in the Rockets FO thought they're going to seize back the narrative by putting cell block guy on the trading block.

    Floored and ashamed

    Eh not really.

Its basically using KPJ's contract for its value as a NG'ed deal and then adding picks to get a useful player back on a longer deal.

The incentive for the other team would be to clean up their cap and pick incentive for a useful player on a longer deal.

    The outrage on this overblown.

DD raided his cannabis stash tonight. Harden?? Lillard??

Please tell me this was meant just as a distraction from the KPJ flak. I can't believe you're serious about either of these guys, and I'll give you reasons:

    1. Harden is the worst guy to bring in if you're trying to establish a new team culture and identity. Loved him while he was here, but he's beyond toxic now. Bringing him back ensures the media will keep laughing and looking at us as a junk franchise for whatever number of years we give him.

    2. Lillard will be guaranteed $63M as a 36-year-old right at the time we're going to be trying to extend our young core.

    3. We already have 3 PGs under contract.

This team is not going to contend for a title this year, no matter who we bring in. Why make a stupid move just to compound all the other stupidity this GM and owner have been responsible for?

They are trying to trade his expiring contract.

It isn’t about KPJ. He will be waived immediately.

    Good lord guys…

    Eh yes really.

I'm trying to think of a situation in any sport where someone was arrested for a violent felony and then another team willingly traded for him "as contract value" 48 hours after his arraignment.

It doesn't happen! No right thinking GM or front office does this. For good reason.

Teams are cynics and will overlook checkered pasts to help them win sometime after the fact. The Astros went through the bullshit motions with Osuna and said they believed he moved on and blahblahblah. But, they wanted a closer.

Nobody in the NBA is going to trade for someone facing prison time (for nearly killing a WNBA player!!!) !!and take the PR hit... for cap relief! Even in the cynical sports world the math doesn't work

You're right. We can't possibly keep him so that we have his expiring contract at the trade deadline, so we try to swap him for someone with a similar contract that we can trade then.

The problem is: Why would a team take him unless we attach multiple first-round picks? Nobody wants the PR hit.

lol there is no PR hit to make a cap maneuver for a guy who never actually reports to your team.

16 mil isn’t worth multiple picks. I would not trade him straight up for bertans, just as an example. It’s one year of dead money. We don’t need cap space so who cares if you have a trash player on the roster or a dead cap hit. Cut him, you lose nothing

This is just using the contract and DRAFT CAPITAL to get a player, everyone will waive KPJ right away.

But if we can do this, we can take advantage of the 16m or so in contract value for declining assets (Our picks) - only going to get worse every year....

Dame or Harden would be guys we could FURTHER FLIP - not stay here....

I think the Rocks are trying to make the most of a **** sandwich and more than likely it won't work, but I applaud them for trying.

    Uh ok sure man.

Yes, we acquired a violent domestic abusing felon repeat offender who nearly killed a WNBA player with his bare hands on Monday - but have you seen the repeater tax provisions in the next CBA? we need that tax relief in 25!

    Sure, sure, sure, sure.

Nobody will mind this at all.

If it was "Let's make a quick call and see if anyone wants to work with us to get something done, if not let's waive him now", then it would be in better taste.

Unfortunately, if people are reporting on it and giving their opinions on the subject, it's already taking too long and you should just be waiving him at this point. It's not worth the hassle and your team is better off getting rid of him as soon as possible.
