That doesn't sound like a GM move. A GM doesn't want to give picks away. That sounds like a cost cutting move - which would be more of Tillman's concern.
To be fair, Tillman Fertitta likely enabled Stone to enable KPJ, so it's not entirely Stone's fault. He was just a yes man who happened to like his orders. Not excusing Stone, I'd like to see him fired too, but he's not entirely at fault.
Learn from your obvious past mistakes tilman/patrick/stone/rockets and just fuucking cut the piece of shiit
This is my exact thought. I bet you 100 bucks this is about Tillman throwing a fit that he is going to have to waive a player making almost 20 mil this year. It’s all cause he’s cheap. The rockets could also make a statement about how they feel about domestic violence but instead they want to ask another team to do that for them. I’m just disgusted on so many levels and the fan in me is banging my head against the wall that Stone is likely going to give away multiple picks if not a really good first round pick (which this team needs MORE of not less) in exchange for what… maybe a million bucks at the most in salary for Tillman? Anyone who is arguing this is for cap flexibility to “improve the roster” is out of their mind and needs to stop drinking the kool aid. This is about Tillman draining assets to try and save a buck. Pathetic.
The optics of this move is incredible. Just take the dead cap hit and move on. Trying to turn dead cap into some live cap with additional trade assets is asinine, doubly so only days after KPJ commits 3 felonies in NYC.
This x 100. Make a Statement to fans like that give a sh$t about domestic abuse. AND make a statement to the fantasy GM’s who actually value future picks more than Tillmans god damn bill. Don’t the rockets have the ability to still trade for or sign players regardless? This isn’t a team over the cap by 100 mil or something. We don’t need to shed salary so bad that we need to get rid of picks.
Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb. Both guys have enabled each other to be the worst versions of themselves they could possibly be. Both suck and if I root for the Rockets it’ll be despite those two scumbags. Not because of them. I have no respect for either one of them. I’m here only for the players and the city of Houston.
Hey if it’s trying to trade for 1 day and then cut I can’t complain . As much as he should be cut , and it’s the right or move to cut , and it’s the right culture move to cut . One day won’t kill us if another team is stupid enough to take a risk on him and we can get someone to fill his spot that’s fine
Rockets probably have intentions to cut him but they’re not going to pull the trigger yet. They would rather see if they can get anything as a desperate measure but probably don’t expect anyone to bite. It’s just a business move. You wouldn’t feel comfortable throwing something away you invested in without taking any offers first.
Blame Les, Ferntits was a jackass then and is a jackass now..could have sold them to much better candidates...
I don't believe that's possible until the league's investigation is done. They're probably just trying to see if they can get anything for him while that's going on. How long does the investigation take?
Porter's contract is guarenteed for this season ($15.8m). Cutting him has no effect on our salary cap as the $15.8m would still count. People are confusing disciplinary action with releasing a player. A team can't discipline a player if the league has already disciplined them for the same offense. So, let's say a player does something and the league suspends him for 20 games. The players team can't also suspend him for the same offense. That would be double punishment. Disciplinary action such as a suspension costs the player money and prohibits them from playing. Releasing a player is different. You can release the player but you still owe them any guarenteed money on their contract. Likewise, the player is free to sign and play with another team. The high road would be to eat the $15.8 m in guarenteed money and waive him. Just as the Spurs did with Primo.
I was hoping Silver did us a solid by canceling his contract. Now we have to get our hands dirty and exhaust all our options.
