I am not a computer geek, as a matter of fact I know jack about computers. I need a laptop and I need it soon. Which one is the best to get? and what should I have in it? Guy at Best Buy said Toshiba is the best to get for its value, and Sony is best if you have money to spend. My friends say Dell is the best to get. My budget is about 2G's so I wanna a pretty good one with a DVD writer and that Bluetooth thingy. Anybody care enough to help me out?
2Gs? Id go for the Dell. I have had my Toshiba laptop for the last 2 years and havent had any problems with it. It really doesnt matter what computer you have, it basically based on the person using the computer. As long as you dont overload your computer to eat up memory and HD space, you should be good to go.
I feel like kicking myself and the computer everytime I've used a Mac. Seriously guys, I am probaby going to get one today or tomorrow. Help a dummy out.
Go down to Circuit city and ask the guy to show you his best centrino laptops, these have great batteries, and they can handle a lot too... plain and simple

Personally, I'm a big fan of IBM laptops. Used em for work for 4 years and loved every model. check out the t line...
I just bought a Toshiba at Microcenter. The higher end model is superb, and comes with a CD/DVD+-RW, 512MB RAM, 3.0 ghz Intel procesor and 80GB HD and integrated 802.11B / G wireless access point. $1600 Great machine. Highly recommended
If you don't mind the brand name, get a Emachines M68**. It has everything any of the other high-end laptops have (wireless LAN, firewire, USB 2.0, SD card slots, DVD-RW/CD-RW, widescreen, Radeon 9600, 80 gig HD, 512MB ram, 1.8GHZ AMD 64 bit [My bro told me Intel sucks or something, so 1.8 AMD is better than 3GHZ]), for a great price (Best Buy has sales every so often for about 1000-1300 after RB, the regular price is about 1300). The features and capibilities that the machine posseses are equal to that of a computer twice it's price. I wanted to get a laptop for college and was going to go with a Sony (more portable), but my comptuer geek brother stepped in and explained that this laptop is more bang for buck, plus the 64bit processor is great considering XP 64 bit will be out soon (My Bro installed the evaluation version on the laptop, and I was amazed as to how much faster windows was). Supposedly it has other features that are supposed to be really good for gaming or something like easy to use BIOS (I don't know what that is, but my brother does). Well, if you want more power than portable, then the Emachines are probably the best choice. If you read most reviews in forums or computer sites, all seem to be very pleased with it's performance. Personaly I don't care that much, I just use it for music and more music.
For the price, I'd get an eMachines M6809, M6810, or M6811 from Best Buy. It is a steal in terms of bang-for-the-buck and will blow away just about anything you can configure from Dell, Toshiba, or (blech) Sony. For $2000 you can get one of the 68xx series and have a few hundred to spare. If you're dead set on one of those 3. I'd get a Toshiba, then a Dell, then just use pad, paper, and a calculator. No way I'd get an overpriced Sony.
once you go mac, you never go back. seriously, mac computers are the best out there. but to each his own i guess.
money. why can they overcharge for the same processor, same memory, and same peripherals? i guess they just built it better and use better parts or something! my family has had three laptops. thinkpad (high end), some radom brand, and dell (high end)... only the thinkpad didn't. all my friends laptops heat up like hell except ibms.
IBM's are the most solid laptops available, period. They cost more though, so if you're on a budget go for a Dell or Toshiba.
